Chapter 941 Immoral
“Why would I concern myself with a lowly family?” Richard huffed, his tone dripping with disdain.
The Sutton family of Lumenopolis, in comparison to the esteemed Grant family, was indeed considered less significant. Richard’s words were not unfounded, but they struck a nerve with. Kate.
He was belittling her family background and mocking their status.
Despite her innocent and harmless appearance, Kate was an ambitious woman. Her determination had led her to Nebula City alone, making every effort to establish contact with
Alex.
She was capable of going to great lengths for the sake of her family even if it meant seducing the abandoned child of the Jeffersons to bring the Suttons closer to their goals. Richard’s dismissive attitude toward her family displeased her greatly.
Kate’s smile faded momentarily as a fleeting glimmer of hatred flashed in her eyes, but it swiftly vanished. She regained her composure and replied nonchalantly, “That’s true, Old Mr. Grant, but fortunes and circumstances can change over time. Who’s to say that the Suttons wouldn’t grow to be more powerful than the Grants one day?”
“Then I’d like to see for myself when that happens.” Richard glared at Alex. “Alex, I no longer wish to hear your explanations. I will order my men to withdraw the investment fund from the tech dome immediately. This will show you that the Grants are not to be taken lightly!”
Richard waved his hand dismissively and stormed off, his anger simmering. He felt a profound sense of sadness and disappointment to discover that someone he had held in such high regard had committed such an act.
Even his friend, Giles, refrained from adding fuel to the fire and simply sighed inwardly.
Alex had once been considered a candidate to become Giles’ grandson-in-law, and the unexpected turn of events was beyond anyone’s anticipation.
Witnessing Richard’s sorrow and confusion, Giles offered some comfort, saying, “Cheer up, Richard. I will gift you my most precious chess set.”
Giles possessed a chess set that had once belonged to the renowned chess player Jan Timmin in the 1980s. Richard had expressed his desire to own that chess set in the past, although it was rarely taken out when they spent time together.
Now, Giles willingly offered it to Richard as a gesture of support, believing he deserved it.
“Ah… I’m exhausted, Giles. I need some rest,” Richard said and left in his private car.
Giles couldn’t help but sigh. He felt that Richard didn’t deserve to go through such a situation.
Just then, Lydia, who had been standing beside him, spoke up. “Grandpa, I don’t think Alex is that kind of man. He doesn’t seem like a cheater. I don’t believe it!”
