“Esme, don’t be as prideful as you were in the past. Now that he still cares about you because of your past, work hard. Otherwise, all the seductresses out there will take him and you’ll lose your chance!”
Esme could feel her chest tighten.
She had never looked at Fia as a worthy enough rival, but her mother’s words made her anxious.
“He’s not that kind of man.”
“I know that he’s someone loyal to his feelings. Even when he didn’t have any feelings for Fia, he still respected her and allowed her to be Madam Maxwell for the past three years. However, that doesn’t mean that there are no other seductresses outside!
“In Gryphon’s social circle, all the other madams are hoping to find a chance to get close to him. They’re willing to even let their daughters become homewreckers if that’s what it takes!”
“Why would they let their daughters ruin themselves like that?” Esme asked with an innocent look on her face.
“Oh, Esme! The Maxwell household is the most powerful household in all of Gryphon. All of those households with ambition would definitely try to get a piece of the pie!”
Originally, Esme wasn’t that nervous. Only now did she realize how urgent things were for her.
She could not allow her success in getting rid of Fia blind her and let another woman take advantage of the situation instead!
Beth grabbed Esme’s hand tightly and said, “Listen to me, alright? Hold him closer to you.”
“Mom!” Esme said with embarrassment. “How can I do that? Conrad would look down on me.”
“Don’t be stupid!” Beth poked at Esme’s forehead and whispered, “All men are lustful. Despite Fia looking like a fool, she has a pretty face and a good body. The reason that she secured happiness in the past three years must be because of the good times they spent in bed.”
“No, I won’t believe it…” Esme tightened her fists as she blushed.
Even when they were in a relationship and she gave him hints, he didn’t touch her.
She would not believe that Conrad would betray her and touch Fia! Otherwise, Fia would have at least had a child during the past three years!
“Esme, pride can’t fill your belly. Conrad’s not a boy anymore. He’s a man now and different from when you were dating him back then. He needs to eat too,” Beth said to her daughter as she patted her hands, worried that Esme wouldn’t listen to her.

I had known that the ending would be like this , I would never had read this book. It didn’t have a right ending at all. Made no sense. Don’t waste your time....
Evil should never win and Lucifer has harmed far to many....
This should not end this way. Fia, rather than following Lucifer’s evil path should reflect and realize that she has always loved Conrad and he has always loved her. Their problems were due to the interference of others, Beryl, Esme etc . Since she is the only one that can approach Lucifer, she and Peter should cooperate with each other, kill Lucifer and evil Beryl, Peter can remove the toxins/ poison from everyone and each will be able to live normal lives without interfering with others relationship's. The children deserve their real father who will love them dearly and provide and protect them with the life they deserve. Gia has been a fool since the beginning and has believed everyone but her beloved husband. Please end this on a good note, that is why we all read these stories, everyone loves a happy ending....
