Chapter 544 You're Courting Death

Lucia couldn't help but smiled crookedly as if she had seen Burton's dawn of victory. She was so excited that she immediately wanted to reach for the phone on the table and tell him the good news.

But her hand had only just reached out when it was pressed by a large palm. The man's low magnetic voice sounded. above her head, "Don't move, and I'll inform Burton for you."

With her face burning, Lucia didn't expect her thoughts had been seen through by August. She had to withdraw her hand. and did not speak again.

Catching the flickering expression on the woman's face, August couldn't help but curl his lips and whisper, "Get some rest, and don't move. I'll call to tell him myself."

With that, he drove his wheelchair and left the ward.

He viewed Burton as his friend, and if he had a more important thing to do, he certainly would not stop him.

Outside the ward, there was a group of patients' families arguing noisily not far from the door, so August frowned

slightly and drove his wheelchair to a less crowded window not far away to make a phone call.

While August was dialing the number, a man in cleaning clothes pushed open the door of Lucia's ward and quickly went in.

And over there, August, who was concentrating on dialing the phone, didn't even notice.

Meanwhile, in the ward.

Lucia was lying on the bed when she heard a click from the doorway. Being happy, she subconsciously asked, "You finished the phone call so soon?"

The man who just walked to the end of the bed was slightly stunned, then lowered his head and said, "I'm the cleaner from the hospital to come over to sanitize."

The man's voice was rustling, like the sound of a razor blade sliding on sandpaper, making it inexplicably uncomfortable to listen to.

Lucia was a little surprised and turned her head sideways to see the man's face, but she didn't realize that she couldn't see what the man looked like at all, because the man was bending over, head down, and the brim of his hat was pressed very low.

Seeing that he picked up a white spray bottle and went to the corner of the window to start sanitizing, she was only slightly reassured.

Without a word, the man sprayed sanitizing liquid along the corner. Lucia turned back, lying on the bed without moving, and soon she felt a cold chill on her back.

It was a kind of chill that came from the bottom of one's heart when being stared at. Lucia sucked in a cold breath and slightly turned her head sideways with some uneasiness, but suddenly found that the man was already standing beside her bed, staring at her from above.

Lucia froze, and instantly raised her eyes to meet the man's gaze, and then, she couldn't help but trembled.

She knew this man!

He was the monk named Jeff whom she saw sweeping the floor and doing carpentry in the courtyard when she went to Evergreen Temple!

And at this moment, what exactly did he want to do by suddenly appearing in her ward?

"You..."

Before Lucia could say anything, she suddenly saw a flash of silver light, followed by the feeling of something against her waist through the quilt, and when she looked down, she froze in shock.

It was a dagger, and its sharp edge glinted silver as if the blade could pierce through the quilt and hit her with the slightest effort.

The monk named Jeff's eyes appeared a little angry and manic, and he almost gritted his teeth and stared at her saying,

"Even if I kill you, I won't be able to relieve my hatred!"

Lucia felt a chill run through her body. She was already unable to move because of the wound on her back, and now that the dagger was against her waist, she was even stiffer and did not dare to move.

She took a deep breath and calmed herself while asking softly, "What did I do to make you hold such a grudge against me?"
