Chapter 713 Ethan Disappeared

"I accidentally touched the latch and locked myself up in the kitchen. I have mild claustrophobia, and Paul broke the

glass door."

This matched Paula's descriptions, but why didn't they know about the phone call? Dianna soon came back to the

courtyard with a swarthy, thin woman. She was not young but looked timid. In the dialect of her hometown, she meekly

greeted Lucia and Daryl.

With a gentle smile, Lucia looked at the woman and said, "Don't be afraid, I just have a few questions to ask you. Dianna

instructed you to answer a phone call, right?"

The woman nodded.

"Do you know who the caller was? What did she say over the phone?" she continued to ask.

The woman immediately dropped her head, twiddling the hem of her apron. Apparently, she was trying to suppress her

nervousness. Lucia's eyes glimmered as she found the maid suspicious.

Feeling her gaze, the maid stammered, "The caller didn't speak. I don't know who it was. I asked, got no response, and

hung up."

"I see. You can go back to work." Lucia sounded as gentle as ever.

The maid was visibly relieved. She bowed deep and hurried away. Before she could say anything, Daryl's serious voice

rang out.

"The maid is questionable."

"Don't alert the enemy." Lucia held her hand down, signaled her to be quiet, and then whispered into her ear, "There are

two things I need your help with."

Daryl nodded slowly, and she continued, "Keep an eye on that maid and look into her background."

"Okay, I'll tell you the result as soon as possible. I'll ask Paul for help when necessary."

"No!" Lucia clutched her fingers, "Keep it from Paul before we figure out the truth. You should do it by yourself."

Daryl looked at her in confusion and then asked with a frown, "You're suspecting that Paul hurt Paula? That's

impossible. Paula is his sister."

She had seen Paul's painful and self-condemned look when he was drunk. He cared about Paula but kept his sorrow to

himself. He couldn't possibly hurt his sister. Paul's anxious look crossed Lucia's mind. When he went to the Adams'

house to question her the other day, he saw Paula's condition with his own eyes. His painful look didn't seem to be fake. "I also hope that it was not his doing, but we should be cautious," she said categorically.

Daryl chose to side with her and promised to do a thorough investigation. Lucia then left and went home. Her mind was a

mess. Countless questions troubled her. The strange atmosphere of the Thomas family, the maid who revealed her

secret, the repeated attacks of Paula's disease, and Ethan who had vanished into thin air. All the problems kept flashing

across her mind. She tried to knock the headache out of her head. As she lay back in the passenger seat, her eyelids felt

heavy, and her breathing became even.

In the suburban Suprise District, people were hustling and bustling. Flynt's men blended in the crowd and vigilantly

looked around.

"Area B clear."

"Area C clear."

The reports from the informants came one after another. August's brows were knitted together. The middleman between Mark and Ethan had defected and told them that Ethan would go into action tonight. Time lapsed. The time appointed by

Mark and Ethan had long passed, but there hadn't been any movement from the dim basement.

"Area D clear." Another report came.

Joshua held the headset and seriously said, "What is going on?"

"Two possibilities. Mark and Ethan canceled the operation because our men were exposed, or Ethan is caught in an

accident."

It was quite likely to be the former. Joshua pressed his headset and instructed the team, "Call off the operation!" "Continue the operation." August's stern voice slowly rang out. He rubbed his fingers and gradually clenched his fists. This opportunity was hard to come by. If the operation was canceled, they might not have another chance. He couldn't

let their efforts go to waste. Tinged with anger and anxiety, Joshua's voice came over. "The life and death of our men depend on us. You can't be impetuous."

"Continue the operation," he repeated. "Ethan will not give up his plans easily. The tranquility is just the prelude to a

storm."

Joshua was speechless. As time passed, he lost his patience and hammered the table. If their action failed again, even
