Chapter 987 Kneel for the Rest of My Life
In the villa, Lucia leaned against August's chest but somehow felt ill at ease. August sensed her anxiety and asked in a low voice, What's wrong?"
Lucia shook her head. The images of the two children crossed her mind.
"Nothing, I just suddenly thought of the two kids. I'm going to give them a call."
She took out her phone and called Janet.
"Sorry, the subscriber you dialed is powered off."
She frowned and called Timothy.
"Sorry, the subscriber you dialed is powered off."
An uneasy feeling got the better of her. She looked at August and said, "I want to go to the office to check on them."
August nodded and came to the office with her. Then they were told that the two kids had left. She grabbed August's arm anxiously.
"Did anything happen to them?"
August folded her in his arms and soothed her, Don't worry, they'll be fine.
"I'm worried about them," Lucia said, biting her lip.
It was the bond between a mother and her children. She had never been so anxious.
"Let's go find them, okay?"
August nodded and left the office with her. As soon as she got in the car, a text message suddenly came.
"Aren't you so arrogant in front of me? Now you’re going to taste the bitterness of losing someone."
Lucia narrowed her eyes and called back, only to find that the other party was using a virtual number. She lost contact with the two kids and received such a message. It was not a good sign.
"August, go and find them."
"Don't worry, let's find Flynt first.”
They drove to Griffith. After learning the two children were missing, Flynt immediately hacked into the surveillance systems of the entire city. In the end, he found that Burton took them away from a bar.
Lucia was not relieved. Far from it, her heart was in her throat. Her intuition told her that the sender of the message had some sort of connection with
Burton. She was worried that Burton would harm her children. Losing no time, she led August to head toward the new location Burton was at.
Before leaving, she gave her phone to Flynt and asked him to help find out who the sender was. They rushed to an abandoned factory in the suburbs. Before they could get close, a voice was heard.
The woman fell to the ground. Half of her face was revealed. Surprisingly, it was Zoey. Lucia looked at Burton in shock. Weren't they on the same side? While she was confused, the children suddenly woke up and broke free of the rope.
"Mom!"
Lucia was overjoyed to have them back but had no idea what was going on. Burton took out a miniature camera from his bosom and smiled.
"Evidence collected, mission completed."
He made an OK gesture to August. Only then did Lucia understand the situation. It turned out to be a trick by the two kids. August, and Burton. Zoey's eyes rounded. She hadn't expected Burton to betray her. Sensing the unfavorable situation, she got up to flee.
It was not that easy. Flynt, who had ambushed outside, held her down. Lucia came to her senses and learned about everything. Turned out August had told Burton the truth at their first meeting. After lifting the misunderstanding, Burton told August about Zoey's plan. Then they beat her at her own game.
She let go of the two children and huffed, "Why didn’t you tell me?"
August felt helpless. To his surprise, her nerves were so keen that she found out.
"As punishment, you're going to kneel on the washboard tonight."
Lucia was really mad. August smiled indulgently and took her into his arms.
"Whatever you say. I can kneel for the rest of my life."
