She confessed over and over again, completely shattering the last shred of hope in his heart.
She didn't even know who she had been with that night in her confused state.
They said it was Sylvester's cousin, and all the evidence pointed to him. Faced with threats to her family, she was at a loss for words and could only swallow her tears and accept the blame.
Despite Sylvester's flamboyance, he was ruthless to the core.
As the heir to the most prominent family in the Golden Triangle, he was nurtured and molded by his elders from a young age. He was definitely not a gullible man.
As he repeatedly asked her and repeatedly faced disappointment, his heart completely went numb. The look in his eyes when he looked at her turned cold, and his treatment toward her could not be described as anything less than ruthless.
He said, “You've hurt me this much. I demand an eye for an eye. You care about your family, don't you? Then I'll make their lives a living hell.”
Seeing his bloodthirsty gaze, Rainie was truly scared.
From the moment they met to the time they fell in love, she had never seen him so ruthlessly fierce.
He said he would make her family's life a living hell, and he was certainly the type to follow through on his threats.
To prevent a tragedy, she swallowed her pain and resentment and disfigured her own face.
At that moment, Sylvester was filled with rage. He stared at her battered and bloody face, gritting his teeth as he said, “I treasure you, yet you treat yourself with such disregard. If that's the case, there's no need for you to live so innocently. Go serve those men in the nightclubs and disgrace yourself to your heart's content.”
Following that, she was swiftly returned to Hallsbay by his subordinates.
They decided on Hallsbay because that city was home to her friends and her enemies. Regardless of who they were, they would all scoff and look down upon her then.
After all, from the moment she won the Oscar for Best Actress, she was destined to be the envy of all, standing alone in her glory.
So, whether they were friends or foes, upon seeing her in that state, they all ruthlessly trampled on her, mistreating her.
She went from being a revered lady on a pedestal to a lady scorned by thousands overnight.
Just like that, she fell from grace.
Bailey held her tightly, tears silently sliding down from her eyes.
“That b*stard, Sylvester. I must kill him,” she cursed. If he couldn't love her, he should've just parted with her peacefully. Why use Rainie's family to pressure her, leaving her in this world to be bullied by others? Wouldn't his heart break if he destroyed her?
Rainie stared blankly at the ceiling above her. She had been crying, yet there were no tears in her eyes. “I've grown accustomed to this, so there's no need for you to protest on my behalf. If I really were to have a relationship with his cousin, then I would truly be betraying him. He treats me this way, which is understandable. But I didn't push Mrs. Hollett. I don't know why they would want to frame me.”
A streak of somber light flashed across Bailey's eyes. The reason Mrs. Hollett falsely accused her was simply to keep her away from her most outstanding grandson. I dare to say that this conspiracy must have been premeditated, and perhaps even Mrs. Hollett was involved in it. Poor Rainie is too naive. Having been tricked by others, she still blames herself, believing that he has let Sylvester down.
“Stop overthinking. I'll take you to my mansion first, where you can get a good night's sleep.” After she finished speaking, Bailey reached out to grab Rainie.
Rainie shrank back, her body involuntarily shivering from the cold. With a trembling voice, she said, “He won't let me leave this nightclub. If I leave, my family will suffer. Bay, the fact that you haven't heard any rumors while abroad proves his influence is vast, and he's kept things tightly under wraps. He's so capable. What if he harms my family? I can't let my loved ones pay for my mistakes.”
Bailey gently patted her back, soothingly saying, “The reason Sylvester was able to deceive me is that I was kept in the dark from the beginning. Now that I understand the whole story, how could I let him get away with it? Don't worry. He's no match for me.”
The fact was that not even Artemis was a match for her.
Rainie reached out to touch her own belly, a hint of disgust flashing in her eyes. “What about the thing in my belly?”
