With her phone gripped tightly, Bailey's eyes emitted a chilling, murderous intent.
Justin was emotionally distraught, allowing Scarlett to manipulate him.
Bailey began, “Artemis, this...”
Having a more composed view of the situation, Artemis shook his head and sighed. “Even if we could save Zephyr, it's impossible to do it in such a short time. Scarlett waited until this moment to reveal the kidnapping to Veronique to witness their helplessness and their forced compromise. Now, if Justin wants to save his son, he may have no choice but to go through with the wedding ceremony with Scarlett.”
Bailey, gritting her teeth, spoke with deliberate enunciation, each word carrying weight. “What's the value of things acquired through force? They are nothing more than illusions.”
Artemis responded, “Are you attempting to reason with a woman who has lost her mind? It's futile. She only seeks to satisfy her desires, and the process and outcome hold no significance to her. Besides, she likely already knows that Veronique is still alive and may have guessed what would happen today. If she doesn't take the initiative, she will be doomed. In today's situation, none of those involved can escape.”
Bailey felt her strength wane, her eyes welling up with tears. “How can Veronique accept this?”
“Sigh!”
In the midst of their conversation, Scarlett had approached Justin.
After Aaron handed Scarlett to Justin and discreetly stepped down from the stage, the pastor began to speak, “Jus—”
But before the pastor could finish his sentence, Justin interrupted with a wave of his hand. “Wait a moment. Before the wedding ceremony commences, there's something I'd like to share with everyone.”
The previously somewhat noisy banquet hall fell into immediate silence. All eyes turned to Justin, as it was the groom who had spoken.
Scarlett clutched her wedding dress, her eyes brimming with tears.
As she walked down the red carpet, she couldn't help but wonder if Justin would simply proceed with the wedding, and she would release the child, pretending as if nothing had happened.
However, now that he had called for a halt, she knew that he never truly intended to marry her. He aimed to humiliate her thoroughly and strip her of any chance of redemption.
Dear Justin, you've chosen to be heartless, so don't blame me for being unjust.
With that thought in mind, Scarlett announced, “I would also like to have a private word with the groom before we proceed with the ceremony. Since we're already delayed, let's wait a bit longer.”
She leaned close to his ear and whispered, “I know your plan. Don't waste your efforts. You're getting married today, willingly or not. But if you don't care about that little brat, then ignore what I've said.”
Justin's icy gaze fixed on her. “What do you mean?”
Scarlett offered a cold smile. “You understand it exactly as you think. Your son is in my hands. If the ceremony isn't completed within ten minutes, you will see his lifeless body.”
Justin's body shook with intense emotion as he stared deeply into Scarlett's eyes, realizing that she was deadly serious. The chilling intent to kill in her gaze left no room for doubt.
If Zephyr were indeed in her clutches, Justin knew that any attempts to make her life unbearable might result in Zephyr's death.
Why did everything go so wrong? Despite my meticulous planning, how did this woman manage to create such a situation to pressure me?
“Did you always know that I never intended to marry you today?”
The tears in Scarlett's eyes welled up even more. What was once a mere suspicion had now been confirmed from his own mouth, and the heartache was unbearable.
This wedding, which he had meticulously orchestrated, was entirely devoid of sincerity.
“It was just a precaution. I knew you didn't want to marry me. So, I used your son as leverage to raise the stakes. As I walked down the red carpet, I felt a tinge of regret. I was afraid that you genuinely wanted to marry me, while here I was, plotting against you. Looking back now, it's quite amusing. I was absolutely right in what I did, and I'm incredibly grateful that I had the foresight to prepare ahead of time.”
