What plans do I have?
Bailey's eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint as she playfully raised her eyebrows and flashed a smile.
“She's using my master's son as leverage, forcing me to go to Zaewora. Doesn't she just think of me as an easy target? If I go against the grain and don't go to Zaewora, do you think she'll panic and falter?” she said.
Artemis stroked his chin, contemplated for a moment, and then nodded. “I believe she will. She's determined that you won't remain passive. If you really don't do anything, she may be compelled to make a personal visit to Hallsbay to confront you. Once she's here in Hallsbay, I'll demonstrate to her what a taste of purgatory is truly like,” he stated.
Bailey's smile deepened, yet, setting humor aside, she couldn't simply disregard her mentor's descendant.
“You head to Zaewora first, assess the situation, and once you've gained a clear understanding of the circumstances there, I'll follow and join you,” she said.
She was quite tied up with a lot of things happening in Hallsbay right now and couldn't be absent.
Whether it was Victoria, Veronique, or even Rainie, they all had perilous predators circling them, biding their time for an opportunity to strike.
Bailey wasn't extraordinary, nor was she a saint, but they were her friends, her confidants. The fate of outsiders, whether they lived or perished, or endured torment, was beyond her concern. Yet, the matters of her friends constantly weighed on her heart, never allowing her a moment of relaxation.
Artemis understood her thoughts and worries. He reached out, drew her into his embrace, and gently said, “You stay in Hallsbay for the time being. I will leave for Zaewora tomorrow to assess the situation. By the way, Sylvester reached out to me; he proposed a gathering with all our buddies. Holden is currently in Moranta, and Micah is stationed at Tarragon Headquarters. If you don't feel like going, we don't have to.”
Bailey furrowed her brows, a subtle ember of anger flickering in her eyes.
A man who couldn't protect his woman was considered incompetent.
It was distressing enough that he lacked competence, but to add insult to injury, he had the audacity to vent his frustration on his significant other.
She could never forget the sight of Rainie, humbly on her knees, pleading with those old geezers that fateful night.
Nor could she forget how Rainie was slapped by them, having her dignity trampled on the ground.
Regardless of her numerous faults, he shouldn't have mistreated her in such a manner.
“I heard he brought a woman from the Golden Triangle. It seems like she's his childhood friend and his first crush. Do you think he'll show up with her?” she asked.
Artemis offered a faint smile and responded with a question of his own, “If that woman is two-faced, do you think she'd miss this opportunity to meet Sylvester's buddies?”
He was implying that if she were cunning and strategic, she would undoubtedly cling to Sylvester, riding on his coattails to glory and success.
Bailey chuckled softly. “I'm not afraid of her showing up; I'm afraid of her not showing up. If she appears, it proves that Rainie was wrong about her being willing to back down and that she was involved in the incident that occurred over a month ago. If she doesn't show up, it suggests that Rainie is not being persecuted, and I don't like that outcome.”
Artemis playfully reached out and pinched her nose, wearing a smile as he asked, “So, would you like to attend the gathering?”
“Yes, why not? I have my own methods of deciphering the true nature of duplicitous people like her. Ha, I'm genuinely intrigued to witness what kind of evilness we're up against. After creating such chaos, not only did she escape unharmed, but she even earned the trust of Rainie, the victim,” she remarked.
In the living room of the Xuereb residence, Olivia promptly rose from her seat and approached Scarlett as soon as she descended from the second floor.
“Lettie, did you sleep well last night?” she asked.
Scarlett's countenance remained icy, and she evaded Olivia's attempt to offer assistance as she proceeded deliberately toward the couch, saying, “My husband wasn't present on the first night after our wedding, leaving me alone in an empty room. Can you imagine if I managed to sleep well?”
The smile on Olivia's face froze.
She was aware that Justin hadn't returned home all night, yet she couldn't muster the courage to call her son.
Her son harbored numerous dissatisfactions toward this marriage. Were it not for Scarlett's capability to save her family, Olivia would have never consented to her son marrying such a haughty woman with no respect for her elders.
“Well, perhaps he got caught up with something important in the lab, which is why he hasn't returned yet. You're pregnant now, and you shouldn't strain yourself. Your top priority should be the well-being of the baby,” she reassured.
