He was like a demon in the darkness, donning a mask of mystery. So far, he had only shown his chilling and intimidating silhouette. Up until now, no one could discern his true identity.
Five years ago, she established the Saviors. Its influence expanded too rapidly, catching the attention of The Exterminator. That man hunted her for two years.
It was a very treacherous escape for Bailey.
During those two years, while she was investigating him, he was also investigating her.
Perhaps it was because their strengths were evenly matched neither could outdo the other in the end.
Finally, three years ago, she had spent over a month in Quilton, engrossed in learning embroidery from Yrina. When she emerged, she was shocked to hear about a major reshuffle in Interpol. The commander, The Exterminator, had disappeared without a trace, passing on his heavy responsibilities to his capable subordinate, Rebecca.
Rebecca Sutton.
If she could capture that woman, could she draw out The Exterminator and avenge the oppression she suffered years ago?
“Interpol?”
Zeke nodded and said with a smile, “To be precise, it was the highest commander of Interpol, Rebecca Sutton. This woman even visited Artemis at the research base in Moranta a few months ago.”
“I'm really curious, why did Rebecca choose Artemis to help her deal with Black Puma? After all, they don't have much in common. Shouldn't she seek help from The Exterminator whenever she is in trouble?”
With a teasing smile, Bailey raised an eyebrow and asked, “Have you also heard of The Exterminator?”
“How could I not know a person of such great influence in the past? But I couldn't find out his identity, he just disappeared without a trace, leaving no evidence behind.”
The smile on Bailey's face deepened, a strange light flickering in her eyes. “If I couldn't find out, do you think Artemis could?”
After a moment of contemplation, Zeke candidly said, “He should be able to do that, right? He's the leader of Tarragon, the most powerful underground force. He must have been suppressed by The Exterminator in the past, so how could he not know a thing or two about the latter?”
“When you have a moment, ask him. I'm quite curious myself. Back in the day, The Exterminator wiped out one of the Shurmer family's strongholds in Golden Triangle. I still remember that score.”
Just as Bailey was about to speak, the phone she was holding rang. She glanced down and saw that it was a call from Artemis.
Huh, speak of the devil.
“It's evening over in Zaewora now, isn't it? Have you had dinner yet?”
Artemis' voice was a little weary when it came through the microphone. “I had a bit of an incident during the day. I presume you've already received the news. You don't need to worry about me, I'm not hurt.”
“We're out of danger now. I heard there's been an incident with Saunders Group. Don't overwork yourself over it. Just let Simon handle it.”
Bailey blinked, and she recalled Zeke's suggestion earlier. Raising an eyebrow, she asked, “Artemis, do you know anything about The Exterminator?”
The breathing on the other end paused, falling silent for a good ten seconds before Artemis finally asked, “Why bring him up all of a sudden? He's nothing more than a troublemaker in the underground circle.
“I've offended countless people in the past, including Tarragon. I'm not interested in those who everyone else despises.”
“Is that so? What a pity. Zeke and I also despise him to the point of gritting our teeth. We were just pondering how to flush him out.
“We figured you must have had quite a few encounters with him, and we hoped to get some useful leads from you. If you don't know, then never mind.”
Artemis cleared his throat lightly, and changed the subject. “Have you decided on the type of embroidery for your wedding dress yet?”
Seeing him dodge the question, Bailey didn't press further. Following his lead, she said, “I've taken your suggestion and arranged for the Strasson family to compete with the Yrina family. The results will be out the day after tomorrow, and I'll let you know then.”
“Alright, I have some matters to attend to, so I'll hang up now. Take good care of yourself and don't get too tired.”
After he finished speaking, he immediately ended the call.
Bailey couldn't help but mutter, “He hung up so quickly. Could he be feeling guilty about something?”
