Bailey's smile turned cold.
"I'm surprised by your sincerity in such a crucial moment. Well, at least you're living up to appearances."
The man in camouflage was momentarily stunned. When he realized what she meant, his expression abruptly changed.
"Ms. Jefferson, what do you mean by that?"
Bailey cast a cold glance at the winery. Her chilling gaze swept across, and the surrounding atmosphere grew tense.
"Haven't you grasped the situation? This is a trap. Your commander has fallen into it. If you continue to hesitate, be prepared to retrieve his lifeless body. You'd do well to trust me," she cautioned sternly.
The man in camouflage pressed his thin lips together and attempted to explain, "I received intel earlier indicating that the hostage is in the hot spring pool. Later, I informed Commander Sutton, and she should be heading to the hot spring pool now. However, I've lost contact with her as well."
Bailey's expression grew even darker. She turned to Ken at her side and asked in a low voice, "What's the situation inside now?"
Ken nodded and answered, "Apart from the initial gunfire, there has been no activity. I suspect the other side doesn't want Mr. Luther dead. As for why they staged this, I'm not sure."
Bailey slowly clenched her fist.
He might not know, but she did.
Faceless didn't want to kill Artemis and offend the Luther Family and Tarragon. Instead, she planned to use underhanded tactics to disrupt their relationship.
Now, with both Rebecca and Artemis trapped in the hot spring pool, their already ambiguous relationship became even more complicated.
If Faceless had resorted to more underhanded tactics, they might have done something outrageous—something Bailey could not tolerate.
She could accept Artemis's past, even if he had fleeting connections with other women.
However, she couldn't accept him being involved with other women after they had fallen in love.
"Ms. Bailey, how about I lead a team to investigate the situation?" Cassius's voice came over, pulling Bailey back from her wandering thoughts.
Bailey closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, her gaze was clear.
"No, I'll go myself. Ken, have your people monitor the entire hot spring pool area. Anyone suspicious, bring them in."
"Yes."
Bailey, accompanied by Cassius and others, entered the winery and headed straight for the hot spring pool on the southwest side.
Along the way, she pondered many things, and in the end, she was engulfed by profound despair.
Faceless had set such a massive trap to make her witness Artemis betraying her—to completely break her spirits.
Even though that man had strong willpower and wouldn't easily get involved with other women, if Faceless employed forceful underhanded tactics, he might have been defenseless.
If he truly did it with Rebecca, how would she have handled it and faced this situation?
She stumbled along, lost in her thoughts, until she reached the hot spring pool.
Almost as soon as she approached the area, she detected an unusual scent—the stupefying drug.
The air was permeated with its distinctive odor, and due to her medical expertise and knowledge of pharmacology, she could discern it.
The drug seemed to evaporate with the steam from the hot spring water, making it pervasive.
Anyone staying in the pool would inevitably be affected.
Moreover, the concentration of the drug was intense enough to cloud people's judgment. Once exposed, even the most loyal person would surrender.
Oh, Faceless, you went to great lengths to win this opening move.
