Arrogant?
Bailey curled her lips into a smile.
If I wasn't brazen and behaved submissively instead, I would have been chewed up entirely by this group of people.
“Since I dare to say it, I naturally have a way to resolve the matter. Besides, aren't you trying to get rid of me from Luther Group? That will also have to depend on your capability to get some dirt on me.”
As her words fell, she strutted in her heels toward Artemis, who was sitting at the head of the table.
When she got near enough, she stopped in her tracks. Raising her brows, she looked at him with a smile. “Mr. Luther, now that all the directors are all worked up and can't wait to skin me alive, I figure they won't believe a thing I say. It seems that I must set an ultimatum to prove myself.”
Artemis was tapping languidly on the table with one hand. Despite looking up at her, he didn't seem as if he had lowered his position at all.
“Mmm. Given the huge pressure they're exerting, an ultimatum is indeed necessary.”
“All right then.” Bailey leaned forward with both hands on the table. Giving Artemis a devilish look, she sneered, “I can help clean up this mess, but there's no reason for me to tolerate the board venting their frustrations on me. If you want me to resolve the matter for you, you have to agree to a condition of mine.”
Artemis' eye glistened faintly in delight. Nevertheless, he still managed to hide it well.
This woman is putting another of her schemes into play. I really like how she's ruthlessly trying to exact revenge.
“Go on.”
Bailey stood back upright before pointing at the members of the board. She declared in a forceful voice, “If I resolve this matter perfectly, all of you will have to apologize for how you treated me today.”
“What did you say?” One of the directors sprang to his feet. Glaring at Bailey, he admonished her, “You're nothing but an employee of Luther Group. What makes you think you can demand an apology from the board?”
“Are you refusing?” With a shrug of her shoulders, Bailey remarked in a nonchalant tone, “If all of you don't agree, I would not blindly go through the trouble. You can go ahead and hold me accountable based on the previous decision. After kicking me out, you can then wait and see if Emmy Boutique will actually sue me.”
“Hmph, do you think we don't dare do that? Mr. Luther, on behalf of the board, I request that you strip Bailey of her role as lead designer. After that, push all the responsibility over the plagiarizing incident onto her so that when Emmy Boutique subsequently pursues the matter, they will have to look for her, as it no longer has anything to do with Luther Group.”
Hearing him, Bailey chuckled softly.
Truth be told, she had no intention of humiliating the bunch of old men. However, given how relentlessly they were attacking her, there was no reason for her to show them mercy.
Scrutinizing Bailey's expression, Artemis caught a glimpse of the scheming smile that cracked from her lips.
Seriously, this woman...
“Do all of you share the same opinion and concur that Luther Group should fire Bailey and that she should shoulder all the blame?”
“This was her mess, to begin with. Dismissing her and holding her responsible is the natural thing to do.”
“That's right. Our decision to fire her is unanimous. Only by punishing her can Luther Group clear its name in the plagiarizing scandal.”
“Fine.” Artemis stroked his chin while making the decisive decision. “I will now fire her with the board bearing witness. From now on, Bailey is no longer the lead designer at Luther Group headquarters. As for the plagiarizing scandal, I, too, will hold her entirely responsible for it. However, I have no control over whoever Emmy Boutique holds accountable in the end.”
The moment the words rolled off his tongue, the entire board froze.
