Suddenly There Are Three (Bailey and Artemis) novel Chapter 177

Chapter 177

Inside the living room of the Luther residence, Felicity showed no joy at all when she heard the news of Bailey's dismissal. Instead, she leaned against the couch with her face losing all color.

She had spent three days accepting the fact that her grandson had become a retard.

Pride and dignity no longer mattered to her. In fact, she was willing to grovel at Bailey's feet as long as the latter could cure her precious grandson.

Unfortunately, even the resourceful Bailey had run out of ideas on how to treat Maxton.

It feels like God isn't even granting me the opportunity to beg on my knees.

“Mom...”

Caridee gave Felicity a nudge on her arm. After hesitating for a moment, she probed, “There's a lot going on at home now. I don't think anyone is in the mood to hold a banquet. Let's just cancel my coming-of-age ceremony.”

Felicity's listless gaze was slightly jolted. Turning her attention to Caridee, she responded in a hoarse voice, “Your coming-of-age ceremony is a once-in-a-lifetime event. How can we cancel it? Isn't Simon organizing it now? Stop saying silly stuff like that.”

As a burning sensation descended upon Caridee's nose, she threw herself into Felicity's arms.

“Mom, Max is a lucky child. Since he managed to overcome his autism earlier, I'm sure he will repeat his success again. I have faith that he will recover.”

“That's right. He definitely will,” Felicity lamented softly. “It's just that we don't know when. I feel as if I won't ever get to see Max speaking adorably in my arms again.”

“Mom, you—”

Before Caridee could say a word, a commotion was heard on the second floor.

One of the maids hurried downstairs and reported, “M-Mrs. Luther, M-Mr. Maxton has peed his pants again.”

Springing to her feet, Felicity thundered, “Why are you telling me that? Shouldn't you be changing his pants instead?”

“H-He refuses to let me do it no matter what and insists on yelling for his mom.”

“In that case, you should get his mom instead of coming to me. Where's Rhonda? Didn't I ask her to stay by his side? Where did she run off to?”

The maid replied meekly, “Ms. Rhonda went to her room to take a call and hasn't come out since then.”

“Why don't you call for her, then? What are you still waiting for?”

“Oh, oh, all right.”

Once the maid was gone, Felicity slumped onto the couch with despair written all over her face. She then ranted in a heartbroken tone, “Oh, my poor grandson. He has never soiled his pants since he was a baby. B-But now... What has the Luther family done wrong for God to torment my grandson this way?”

As her words fell, she pounded her chest with her fist.

Restraining her mother's hands, Caridee cried out in tears, “Mom, don't take it out on yourself. There must be a way. I'm sure Bailey is capable of curing Max.”

At the mention of Bailey, Felicity—as if she was grasping at straws—grabbed Caridee's arm and ordered anxiously, “The public is condemning Bailey and even calling for her to be jailed. Y-You, go and tell Artemis that he has to protect Bailey. Worse comes to worst, get him to shoulder the blame as long as she isn't sent to prison by the folks at Emmy Boutique. If it comes to that, what will happen to Max? Who's going to treat him?”

Caridee sighed in resignation.

Kinship is a strange thing. Mom used to hate Bailey and can't wait to rip her to pieces. But because of Max now, she's willing to cast aside her pride to accept the person she hates the most.

“Go now. Quickly. What are you spacing out for? Once Bailey goes to prison, it will be hard to get her out.”

“Oh, okay. I'll call Artemis now.”

In the second-floor bedroom, Rhonda was greeted by a stinking smell the moment she walked in.

Her expression drastically changed.

D*mn it, that b*stard has soiled his pants again.

If it was not for the maids present, she would definitely not hide the disdain and resentment on her face.

“Ms. Jefferson, you're finally here. Mr. Maxton refused to let us change him. And now, he's covered in... You should help him wash up and change a new pair of pants.”

Sweeping a piercing gaze over, Rhonda exploded, “Why do I have to do everything myself? What did the Luther family pay you so much for? If you can't resolve something as trivial as this, all of you are no longer needed and should get lost!”
