After the person repeated what was said, Bailey observed how Artemis' face became even gloomier, and she could not help but feel curious.
For that b*stard to reveal such an expression, something major must have happened.
“All right. I'll head there right away.”
After Artemis ended the call, she raised her eyebrow and asked, “Did Rhonda create more trouble again?”
Rolling his eyes at her, Artemis replied firmly, “Rhonda had a miscarriage. The preliminary diagnosis is that she accidentally took some abortifacient.”
What?
Bailey was shocked for a while. When she returned to her senses, she widened her eyes and exclaimed, “What did you say? Rhonda took some abortifacient? How is that possible? She's relying on her baby to become the future matriarch of the Luther family. How could she possibly ruin her own future?”
As Artemis narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint appeared in them for a moment. “That means someone gave her the abortifacient,” he concluded nonchalantly. “In more straightforward terms, she blocked someone's path, which caused that person to develop a grudge against her.”
Bailey fell silent at that. After a long while, she asked, “Could the culprit be from the branch family of the Luthers? Now that there are more children added to the direct line of descent, the main family can grow its monopoly. If the branch family eliminated Rhonda's child, it would be equivalent to diminishing the main family's power. In turn, they'll get a greater share of power.”
“It's hard to tell,” replied Artemis solemnly. “It's possible that the father of her illegitimate child did it. He probably noticed that something was wrong and wanted to avoid future complications. After all, if I find out who he is, I'll never let him off the hook easily.”
Bailey stood up from the couch. “Let's go. I'll follow you to visit the Luther family. Perhaps I can pick up a clue from the abortifacient.”
“Okay.”
At the Luther residence, the bedroom was filled with wails.
From a distance away, one could already hear Felicity screaming at the top of her lungs. “Dear Lord, how has the Luther family sinned? Why did these tragedies happen to our grandsons one after the other? Are you deliberately torturing my grandsons because you can't bear to see the Luther family prosper?”
Rhonda's sorrowful cries ensued.
In the meantime, Bailey suddenly halted in her tracks.
If she barged in directly, Rhonda, that crazy woman, would definitely cling to her and accuse her of everything.
Although she did not mind it, it did not mean that she would be eager to put herself in such a horrible position and get scolded by someone else.
“I don't think I'll enter. Tell the person in charge of the infirmary to let me have a look at Rhonda's medical report. Get him to show me the food that contained the abortifacient, too.”
Artemis glanced at the butler, ordering, “Follow her instructions.”
“Understood.”
With that, Bailey turned around and went downstairs.
Artemis watched her leave before entering Rhonda's bedroom.
When the two women at the bed saw him enter, they became even more emotional.
Felicity staggered over and buried herself in Artemis' arms.
Although he frowned, he still hugged her back. No matter what, she was still his biological mother.
“Artemis, how has the Luther family sinned? Why are the heavens treating my grandsons like this? It happened to Max, and now, Ronni's child has also...”
The moment she finished speaking, Rhonda tried to rush out of the bed and jump into Artemis' arms.
When Artemis saw that, he uttered calmly, “Stay on the bed and don't move. Rest well. There are only a few days before the wedding. If you can't recover in time, how can the wedding continue?”
