At night, Artemis chatted with Zayron in the ward at the medical base for a while.
Only after his son had fallen asleep did he get to his feet and leave.
When he pushed open the door to the study and stepped into the room, Justin was reclining against the couch.
The man had a stack of documents in his hands and was flipping through them.
Upon seeing that the door was pushed open, he instinctively raised his eyes. As his gaze alighted on Artemis, he quirked a brow and asked, “What exactly happened that you're acting all mysterious?”
Artemis walked over and sat down across from him. After a moment's silence, he murmured unhurriedly, “Do you still remember the incident that transpired in Pontotium seven years ago?”
Justin was stunned, and his body started stiffening.
I naturally remember the incident that transpired in Pontotium seven years ago. Even if I'm old and my memory begins failing me, I'll never forget that experience.
Back then, the organization's leader locked him in a cage. That aside, the man injected him with an aphrodisiac and released a few tigers into the cage. However, he had absolutely no recollection of whatever happened thereafter.
When he came to again, he was lying on a hospital bed in the ward of a local hospital.
He was a doctor, so he knew all too well whether he had been violated by the beasts.
Apart from scratch marks from wild animals on his body, there were two palm prints. Precisely speaking, they belonged to a woman.
He reckoned that he bedded a woman while he wasn't in his right mind, so he tried investigating the woman's identity after the incident, but to no avail.
“What are you trying to say? And why did you suddenly bring that matter up?”
Sighing softly, Artemis took a photo out of his pocket and handed it to Justin.
Justin took it dubiously before reflexively looking down at it. With a mere glance, he was entirely floored.
There was a six or seven-year-old boy in the photo. He had exquisite features and was exceedingly handsome, but his complexion was slightly pale, faintly exuding a sense of sickly fragility.
All that aside, his countenance felt very much familiar. It was as though Justin had seen him somewhere and had been looking at that face every day.
“W-What's the meaning of this?”
Without beating around the bush, Artemis stated bluntly, “Seven years ago, that group of people locked you in a cage and left you at the seaside. A woman rushed over in time and killed those few tigers, saving you. At that time, you were under the influence of the drug and lost all sanity. You forced yourself on the woman. The woman later got pregnant. She gave birth to the child in the photo seven years ago. This little boy is your child.”
You forced yourself on the woman. The woman later got pregnant... This little boy is your child.
Those few grating utterances lingered in the air and drifted into Justin's ears, crushing him entirely.
Likewise suffering a devastating blow was Scarlett, who stood outside the door, a moment from pushing it open.
She clutched the door handle hard, allowing those shocking truths to slam into her.
A woman... pregnant... a child... Justin once bedded a woman, and that woman even got pregnant and gave birth to a son for him in the end. Is that it? Did I interpret things correctly? Who was it? Who gave birth to a son for him? Who was that woman? Who exactly was she?
The next second, the man in the room gave her the answer.
With a trembling voice, Justin inquired, “W-W-Who was it?”
In truth, he already had the answer deep within, but he didn't dare voice it, nor did he have the gall to do so.
Did I force myself on her back then? What should I do if that woman was her? And how should I face her family and the child?
Sighing soundless, Artemis enunciated, “Other than her, who else would have dared risk her life to save you back then? Justin, I know you can't accept the truth, but this is the reality. You've got no choice but to accept it. Go and save the child. He's already at the end-stage of leukemia. Veronique is already at the end of her rope. If she were to collapse, it would also likely mean the end for the child.”
