Jason did not answer her question and instead asked, “Could I reveal your identity to them?”
“By all means. I've not done anything to hurt anyone with that identity, nor am I afraid of you revealing it to everyone.”
Of course, Bailey had not agreed to the disclosure of her identity as Spook to win the admiration of anyone.
She was hoping that the higher-ups in Chanaea would not pursue her for hacking into the system of the country's national research institute following the revelation and the honor that she had brought upon Chanaea for winning the competition.
Bailey was looking to hit two birds with a stone.
The higher-ups were hunting Spook down. If one day she was indeed captured by the state, Bailey knew she might not make it out of prison, not especially if she continued to keep her identity as Spook a secret.
“I believe everyone is curious why I openly admit to plagiarizing Ms. Jefferson's code. This has its roots all the way back when I was still working on the 4G source code. I hit a bottleneck back then, and I saw no way out. My progress came to a complete halt at seventy percent. I think everyone here knows for a fact that the famous and mysterious number one hacker, Spook, completed the remaining code for me.”
The convention center fell into dead silence once again.
The bizarre silence hung in the air for a few seconds and was finally broken by someone shouting, “My goodness! Is he trying to tell us that Bailey Jefferson is the number one hacker, Spook?”
Heated discussions among the audience ensued, and the convention center went into an uproar once again.
Even the representative of the International Network Society appeared to be confounded as well.
“So you're the number one hacker, Spook, who completed the remaining thirty percent of the 4G code. What a pleasure to finally meet you, Ms. Jefferson!” the man said to Bailey.
“The pleasure is all mine,” Bailey said.
Then, she turned to the audience and continued jokingly, “Don't you guys dare to offend me now that you know I'm Spook. Otherwise, you can always assume that it's me who leaked your naked photos on the internet when your phone or computer gets hacked.”
Laughter erupted in the convention center right then.
Bailey turned back to the man from the International Network Society and said, “This code will bring benefits to humanity in the coming decade. However, I am a Chanaean. So, I think this code can only remain in Chanaea for the time being. Does the International Network Society have any opinion on this?”
A hint of hesitation fleeted across the man's eyes. He seemed reluctant to agree to Bailey's request. However, he decided to suppress his brimming greed after a moment of contemplation.
He had heard that the eldest son of the most prominent family in Chanaea, the Fletcher family, had come to Hallsbay.
The latter had brought along an army. If they decided to take the 5G source code with them, he would be long gone before he could leave Hallsbay.
“N-No, of course not. This is your work, Ms. Jefferson. You have the final say. We look forward to working together with Chanaea.”
“Sure.”
After the competition was over, Bailey kept a low profile and left the convention center.
In the suite of a hotel room, a loud slap reverberated across the room.
Scarlett cupped the left side of her face and widened her eyes incredulously at Raiden. “Raiden, you hit me. You really hit me,” she said in a quavering voice.
Raiden was trembling from the fury burning in his chest. He exuded a murderous aura and looked intimidating.
“If not for Bailey showing mercy, do you know where you would be now?” Raiden berated. “The prison!”
