Wendy reached out, about to push open the door to the study.
When she heard the conversation going on inside the room, she slowly withdrew her hand.
What is Holden doing in Hallsbay? That man is one of Tarragon's leaders. Does this mean that he had a motive when he approached me all those years ago? Maybe he didn't have any romantic feelings for me at all and simply approached me because he wanted to destroy me.
As Wendy was the heir to the Hoffman family back then, once something happened to her, the entire family would be in trouble.
Reality also validated this point. When news about her becoming pregnant from a foreign man broke out, the entire family erupted in chaos.
If it were not for Lionel secretly lending her a hand, the Hoffman family would have completely fallen apart because she had a premarital pregnancy.
Holden... Oh, Holden... You were just using me, weren't you? I was just a tool to help you destroy the Hoffman family. In that case, you don't have the right to know about Sebastian's existence. You don't even have the right to have a child.
She did not want to let Sebastian meet Holden, and she could not allow her child to have anything to do with Tarragon.
Tarragon and the Hoffman family were mortal enemies and had been for the last hundred years. There was no way she would allow her child to be caught up in their power struggle.
It seemed it was time for her to take Sebastian and leave Hallsbay.
The next day, Bailey went to a private room on the third floor of Century Hotel.
When she saw the men who were seated inside, she raised her brows. “Sorry, I was held up on the way. I apologize for making you wait.”
With that, she turned to one of the elderly men and said, “Mr. Raymond, it has been years since I last saw you, and you are still as fit as a fiddle. The flight from Moranta must have been very long.”
Raymond looked at her and replied in somewhat awkward Chanaean, “Snowflake, when you took Julie away from the Hoffman family, you promised that you would take good care of her and not allow her to have any relations with a foreign man. How do you intend to explain this situation, then?”
Bailey arched a brow. After finding herself a seat, she asked in a confused tone, “Who said that she had a relationship with a foreign man? Did she lose her virginity or get pregnant?”
“You...”
“Mr. Raymond, this is all just hearsay, so you can't take it seriously. Julie is very obedient now and wouldn't get involved with any man. There is no need for any of you to worry.”
Raymond fell silent for a moment. “No matter if it's true or not, Julie can't be left to her own devices any longer. Now that she has come of age, it's time for her to make preparations for the succession,” he said through gritted teeth.
The corner of Bailey's lips curled up as she replied casually, “I promised her that I wouldn't force her to return to the family before she reached thirty. You may come back for her again in a few years.”
Raymond instantly objected, “That won't do. I heard that she has developed feelings for the eldest son of the Shurmer family and is even by his side all the time. This is definitely not a baseless rumor. We can't afford to take risks or make any more mistakes, as Julie is the family's only hope. She must come home with us this time.”
Mockery flashed across Bailey's face. “And do you think you'll be able to take her away from right under my nose?”
Raymond's expression turned grim.
