Bailey glared at him. “Do you think I'll trick you?”
Justin could not help but laugh.
He was, after all, scared.
If Scarlett ended up getting pregnant with his child, his relationship with Veronique would come to an end.
Veronique had suffered a lot. He did not want her to be sad anymore.
“All right, I'll leave this to you, then. I'll go back to put on my act.”
“Okay.”
Ever since Victor announced he was going to sell the company, chaos erupted at Saunders Group.
The shareholders from the board of directors strongly disagreed with the announcement and constantly waited in the CEO's office for Victor to return.
As shareholders, they naturally had a share of the company's profits.
Once the company was sold, all their shares would lose their value. It would be a major loss for them, so they would not agree to it that easily.
Even though Victor did not show up, they did not leave. They waited in his office every day for him to return.
Sadly, the outcome was the same for the next few days.
In the end, Victoria could not hold it in anymore and went to the company.
The moment she saw the company in a mess, her eyes reddened.
The receptionist hurried forward and asked Victoria about the purpose of her visit before advising, “Ms. Saunders, it's best if you don't go upstairs. The shareholders are gathered in the CEO's office now. I'm afraid they might get emotionally agitated and accidentally hurt the baby in your belly.”
Victoria fell silent as she tried to process the situation.
Indeed, it was inappropriate for her to show up at that moment. Remembering that Lionel would be handling the higher-ups of Saunders Group, she walked out.
As she stood on the steps in front of the building, tears streamed down her cheeks.
After all, the company was a family business her ancestors had worked hard and passed down for many generations. Yet, it took less than a month for Victor to ruin it.
Back then, she had acted nonchalant about it. Now that she had witnessed the situation with her own eyes, she realized she was not as strong as she thought. She could not bring herself to put on a smile while watching the company go bankrupt and the Saunders family fall from grace.
As she lowered her gaze, she saw Lionel walk over from the outdoor parking lot. Immediately, her lips curled to form a bitter smile.
In the past, he had been the desperate one whose family had been destroyed. And now, the tables had turned. Victoria had taken his place.
He had managed to make a comeback and rebuild the Gezmond family. Victoria could not help but wonder if she could do the same.
“What are you thinking about?” Lionel wrapped an arm around her waist and pressed his forehead against hers. “Saunders Group isn't bankrupt yet. What are you crying for? I'm here. Your family that existed for over twenty years won't be destroyed just like that.”
Victoria hung her head slightly and asked in a hoarse voice, “Why are you here?”
“I was worried about you. I'm glad you didn't go upstairs. Vicky, I'll do everything in my power to protect whatever you care about, including Saunders Group.”
Victoria bobbed her head with a smile. “Let's go. I know what you plan to do. Let's go upstairs together.”
“Okay.”
With that, Lionel took her hand and strode into the lobby.
They used the CEO's elevator to ascend to the top floor. Sure enough, a group of shareholders crowded around the couple the second they arrived.
“Ms. Victoria, you arrived right on time. Mr. Victor has sold off the company without our consent. This is too much.”
“Exactly. You guys aren't the only ones who own this company. We own part of it, too. What gives him the right to sell off the company without getting our approval?”
“Since you guys are here, give us an explanation.”
“Yeah! We want a reasonable explanation.”
