Bailey rolled her eyes.
She knew that he was going to stop her.
In fact, he was not the only one. She doubted that Edmund would let her leave the medical base either.
To them, she was walking to her own death by stepping out of the medical base.
There were countless assassins waiting to take her life outside, and what else would she be doing if not courting death by leaving?
“Zeke...” She reached out to tug the hem of Zeke's shirt before looking at him with pitiful eyes. “I miss Artemis. I wish to meet him soon. I just had a miscarriage, and I'm still weak. The burden of all these people is a heavy one on my shoulders. I'm hoping that Artemis can come back and help to split the weight...”
Zeke was smart, and he immediately understood what she meant.
In other words, she was asking him to let her enter the bear's cave. How could he possibly do that?
They were all going to follow in her footsteps if anything were to happen to her.
“We can think of other ways to lure out the mastermind behind this. There's no need for you to get involved personally. Bay, you have to protect yourself. Your life is linked to these few men's lives.”
Resignation washed over Bailey, for she understood what Zeke meant as well.
If she were to die, those who loved her would live their life miserably from then on.
However, opportunity and risk came hand-in-hand.
If she did not show herself, how were they going to lure the mastermind out?
She was the only one who could tempt them into showing up. Otherwise, things would continue to be delayed.
That was not something she wanted.
Artemis was trapped in the headquarters, and she did not want to waste any more time.
Others could say that she was a loser, and she would just let them be. She was forsaking her rationality for a man.
But there was nothing she could do about it. She was so in love with him.
After taking in a deep breath, she gritted her teeth and said, “Zeke, I must go. You're right. If I disagree with your mother's request, the familial relationship between us will be ruined. There are many things in life that won't go our way, and parents are the only ones we must never go against. “
An angry laugh escaped Zeke at that. “You're good at finding excuses, huh? You said you didn't care about it earlier, but you've changed your mind in the blink of an eye. That's why I can only heed a quarter of your words.”
Bailey smiled at him. “That's how I get my way around Artemis. I don't care. You're my brother, so you have to let me have my way. Just say yes, okay?”
Just as she said that, she reached out to grab his arm and shake it, pestering him like a child.
Zeke always thought he was a determined person, but he could not hold his ground against her sweet words. In the end, he relented. “First of all, I'll be sending a fleet of cars to go with you. Secondly, I'm going with you. Will you agree to this?”
Bailey initially wanted to tell him that she would only accept the first condition, but upon seeing Zeke's darkening expression, she quickly uttered, “Yes to all your terms”.
Twenty minutes later, Waverly arrived at the medical base.
The second she saw Bailey, she dragged her outside.
“Shirley got agitated, and her baby is in danger. You're an excellent doctor, so I need you to take a look at her.”
Bailey raised a brow and grinned.
“I remember that Mrs. Shurmer has always been adamant about not having me join the Shurmer family. You refused to let me return to my biological family, so why should I curry favor with you? Do you take me as an idiot?”
Waverly tried tugging her again, but Bailey remained fixed in her spot. She then turned to Bailey and frowned. “Are you going to stand aside and watch your brother's child die? He loves you so much, and his child is your nephew.”
Bailey sneered. “Now you're talking about family with me? Have you ever thought about how I felt when you rejected me?”
