Suddenly There Are Three (Bailey and Artemis) novel Chapter 836

Chapter 836 There To Save Sofie

Nighthawk?

A shudder suddenly ran through Dominic's body. At the same time, a sense of foreboding swamped him.

My subordinate said the man went out late at night and has yet to return. Don't tell me that something has happened to him?

“You killed him?”

Sofie's cold laughter came through the communicator. “Shouldn't I have killed him?”

“How dare you!” Dominic was extremely angry.

First, it was the messenger I sent. And now, it's my most capable subordinate. Has she developed a taste for killing?

“You actually dared to kill him, Sofie? Do you realize that by harming him, you're declaring war on me?”

Sofie sneered, “So be it. I've even killed the messenger you sent. Wasn't that clear enough to convey my stance? We both know that only one of us can remain in the end. One of us must die. I want to live. As such, I'm left with no choice but to consign you to death.”

After she had finished speaking, she promptly ended the call.

Listening to the dial tone coming from the other end, Dominic was so angry that his entire body trembled. He abruptly raised his arm and smashed the communicator in his hand.

“What should we do now, Mr. Doyle?”

“Sofie is now determined to fight us to the death at the foot of the mountain. If we don't make preparations for the battle, she'll catch us off guard.”

“Yes, exactly! Many lives are at stake. We can't just let her eliminate them all. Even if we can't kill her, we must deal her a devastating blow.”

“Indeed. Since she won't allow us to live, we shouldn't let her have it easy either.”

“Please give the order to prepare for battle immediately, Mr. Doyle.”

The high-ranking individuals below the steps spoke over one another, spit spewing everywhere as they clamored.

Dominic slowly clenched his fist. Gritting his teeth, he uttered, “Since she chose to betray me, she can't blame me for showing her no mercy. Convey my orders that everyone is to prepare for battle. Even if we can't win, we must inflict heavy damage and make her pay a painful price.”

“Understood.”

On the mountaintop, Artemis wore a satisfied smile on his face after listening to Ken's report.

Even if Dominic and Sofie were to join forces and attack Tarragon Headquarters, he could handle it.

However, the losses might be somewhat hefty.

Presently, he had successfully instigated them and have them go up against each other.

Regardless of the triumphant party in the end, it would mean half the pressure lifted off his shoulders.

That was the situation he wanted to see.

“All right, I got it. Bring some men with you and guard the perimeter to ensure that all Mr. Doyle's men meet their ends at Sofie's hands. If anyone tries to flee from the battle, take them down immediately. I don't want to see any survivors slipping away. Understood?”

“Yes, understood. I'll kill anyone and everyone who tries to escape. Just wait here for my good news.”

After Ken had left, Artemis turned his head to look at the woman munching on a pheasant thigh at the side. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, “How long do you think this battle will last?”

Bailey bit off a large chunk of meat, chewing as she mumbled, “At most, two days. Sofie doesn't only have her own subordinates but also assassins from Philip and Shaun. Her forces far surpass those of Mr. Doyle's. If she still loses this battle, I can only say that I've overestimated her in the past. But don't we know her methods all too well? In a situation where there's a great disparity in strength between them, Mr. Doyle doesn't stand a chance. He'll be completely overwhelmed. Thus, two days is the limit. That old geezer wouldn't be able to hold up for even an hour beyond that.”

Artemis leaned in and opened his mouth.

Bailey glanced at the pheasant thigh in her hand, feeling slightly reluctant to give it to him. Hesitating, she tore off a small piece of meat and popped it into his mouth.

Artemis could not help but reach out and ruffle her hair. “What an ungrateful woman! I was the one who caught this pheasant.”

With a harrumph, Bailey changed the subject. “After the battle at the foot of the mountain ends, Sofie will order Holden to turn off all defenses at the headquarters. He has to agree, for only by doing so could he lure her into the trap and capture her without lifting a finger. However, Wendy is ultimately at risk in her hands. We must rescue her the moment Sofie steps into Tarragon Headquarters.”

She had promised Holden that she would keep his woman safe.

Even without the man, she would never sit back and watch Wendy die without doing anything.

The latter was Juliana's sister and also Sebastian's mother. If only because of those two relationships, she had to step in and save Wendy.

After giving it some thought, Artemis suggested, “Why don't we use the same method as before? We'll have a suicide attacker disguise as her and sneak in to take her place. Then, she can get away ahead of time.”

Bailey paused in the act of tearing into the pheasant thigh, her eyes narrowing slightly.

After a moment of silence, she said coldly, “I dislike this method of trading one life for another. Suicide attackers are also human. I've made up my mind, Artemis. While they're battling against each other, I'll sneak in myself. When Sofie launches an attack on the headquarters, I'll find a way to rescue her.”

“No way.” Artemis immediately objected without even thinking about it.

Venturing into the lion's den was undoubtedly courting death.

Therefore, he would never allow her to take such a risk.

“There's no way I'm agreeing to this. Don't even think about it.”

Bailey shrugged nonchalantly. “So be it. Why the hostility? Besides, there's no rush in this matter. They've only started battling, so we have plenty of time to think of other solutions. But I'm warning you—you're not allowed to trade a suicide attacker for her life.”

“As long as you don't take any risks, I'll go along with everything you say. But if you dare sneak into their camp behind my back, I'll definitely send a suicide attacker to replace her.”

Bailey could not help but laugh.

She looked at him defiantly and asked, “Do you know disguise skills? Can you create a hyper-realistic mask that looks exactly like Wendy?”

Uh...

Artemis's pride took a hit because he could not accomplish that.

At the sight of him standing up and stalking off, Bailey quickly discarded the pheasant leg and reached out to grab his wrist.

“I was just joking with you. You took it seriously?”

Artemis did not turn around. He gazed at the distant mountains, his voice carrying a hint of both a sigh and helplessness.

“You can change your appearance and can leave me whenever you want. I'm powerless to stop it. Thinking about it, I'm indeed quite pathetic. How depressing.”

Bailey sauntered around to his front, then reached out to wrap her arms around his waist, smearing all the grease on her lips onto his shirt.

“I can't live without you. People always say that women are the weaker sex, and now I truly understand what they mean. If you don't believe me, let's give it a try. If you run at full speed, I'd never be able to catch up with you. Sometimes, it makes me feel insecure. I wonder if you might get sick of me—”

The words she was about to say next were swallowed by his all-encompassing kiss.

A cunning smile flittered across Bailey's eyes.

Hmph! Did you think you could win me in a tantrum, you scoundrel?

It was night at a small town in the northwest.

Gerald stood with his hands behind his back at the gates of a small farmyard.

In the darkness a near distance away stood a tall and thin figure in silence.

“How are things down the mountain?”

“Mr. Doyle and Sofie are in a fierce battle, Mr. Luther. Given the current situation, Sofie will have him completely defeated the day after tomorrow at the latest.”

After some thought, Gerald asked, “What is Holden's plan to deal with Sofie?”

He was there for the purpose of saving Sofie.
