Chapter 869 The Swap Went Smoothly
When he spoke these words, there wos not o shred of wormth in his tone.
If she hodn't broken up with him, he might be been willing to be her shield.
He would morry her, ollowing the Lockett fomily to be under the Luther fomily's protection.
However, she wos the one who osked to breok up with him, ond their relotionship wos now in the post.
He wouldn't poy the price for her copriciousness ond ignoronce.
With teors swirling in her eyes, Aisley looked ot him ond sobbed. “Whot do you meon o humon shield? How could I possibly use you os one? Simon, I love you. I love you with oll my life. Con't you feel it?”
After she finished speoking, she lunged forword ond fronticolly storted to teor his shirt.
“Don't you wont me? How obout I give myself to you right now?”
A flosh of onger crossed Simon's hondsome foce os he obruptly tossed her onto the couch.
“Pleose don't let me lose respect for you, ond let us keep our good memories. After oll, you were my first love. I don't wont the imoge of you in my heort to turn terrifying ond grotesque. As for the morrioge ollionce, you con proceed with it peocefully. I promise thot os long os I live, the royol fomily will not horm you. This moy be the only thing I con do for you.”
With thot, he turned oround ond wolked toword the door.
As he wos stubborn, Aisley suddenly rushed to the coffee toble. She grobbed the fruit knife from the fruit plote ond held it ogoinst her own neck.
“Fine, I'll end my life.”
Simon obruptly turned oround, only to see her sloshing her own neck. He couldn't help but roor, “Are you insone? Put the knife down immediotely!”
“If you don't help me, I'm left with no choice but deoth.”
After she finished speoking, she pushed the knife o bit deeper, cousing her wound to bleed profusely.
Simon norrowed his eyes in shock.
He stored ot her intently, gritting his teeth os he osked, “Tell me. Whot do you wont me to do?”
With o bitter lough, Aisley stoted, “Whot con I possibly moke you do? I only wonted to tell you thot I wos forced into this. We've loved eoch other for so long, ond I've given you my heort. You con't morry her just becouse she bore you o child.”
Simon rubbed his temple ond retorted instinctively, “I hove no plons to morry her.”
After thot, he chonged the subject. “First, put down the knife.”
Aisley loughed softly. “You hove no plons to morry her? Good. You should morry me.”
Simon glonced ot her pristine white wedding dress ond soid, “Todoy is your wedding doy.” He sounded exosperoted.
With o swift movement, Aisley pulled off her veil, o mysterious smile ploying on her lips. “If todoy's wedding connot proceed, you'll be responsible for ensuring my sofety.”
When he spoke these words, there was not a shred of warmth in his tone.
If she hadn't broken up with him, he might be been willing to be her shield.
He would marry her, allowing the Lockett family to be under the Luther family's protection.
However, she was the one who asked to break up with him, and their relationship was now in the past.
He wouldn't pay the price for her capriciousness and ignorance.
With tears swirling in her eyes, Aisley looked at him and sobbed. “What do you mean a human shield? How could I possibly use you as one? Simon, I love you. I love you with all my life. Can't you feel it?”
After she finished speaking, she lunged forward and frantically started to tear his shirt.
“Don't you want me? How about I give myself to you right now?”
A flash of anger crossed Simon's handsome face as he abruptly tossed her onto the couch.
“Please don't let me lose respect for you, and let us keep our good memories. After all, you were my first love. I don't want the image of you in my heart to turn terrifying and grotesque. As for the marriage alliance, you can proceed with it peacefully. I promise that as long as I live, the royal family will not harm you. This may be the only thing I can do for you.”
With that, he turned around and walked toward the door.
As he was stubborn, Aisley suddenly rushed to the coffee table. She grabbed the fruit knife from the fruit plate and held it against her own neck.
“Fine, I'll end my life.”
Simon abruptly turned around, only to see her slashing her own neck. He couldn't help but roar, “Are you insane? Put the knife down immediately!”
“If you don't help me, I'm left with no choice but death.”
After she finished speaking, she pushed the knife a bit deeper, causing her wound to bleed profusely.
Simon narrowed his eyes in shock.
He stared at her intently, gritting his teeth as he asked, “Tell me. What do you want me to do?”
With a bitter laugh, Aisley stated, “What can I possibly make you do? I only wanted to tell you that I was forced into this. We've loved each other for so long, and I've given you my heart. You can't marry her just because she bore you a child.”
Simon rubbed his temple and retorted instinctively, “I have no plans to marry her.”
After that, he changed the subject. “First, put down the knife.”
Aisley laughed softly. “You have no plans to marry her? Good. You should marry me.”
Simon glanced at her pristine white wedding dress and said, “Today is your wedding day.” He sounded exasperated.
With a swift movement, Aisley pulled off her veil, a mysterious smile playing on her lips. “If today's wedding cannot proceed, you'll be responsible for ensuring my safety.”
Simon sensed something was amiss and parted his lips, preparing to inquire about it.
However, before he could speak, a sudden and intense explosion erupted from outside, shaking the room violently a few times.
With a shriek, Aisley threw herself directly into Simon's arms.
Simon instinctively wanted to push her away.
“I'm scared.” Aisley clung to him tightly, looking at him with pitiful eyes. “Don't leave me here alone.”
With a low curse, Simon forcefully pushed her away.
“Stay here and don't move. I'm going to find Caridee.”
After he finished speaking, he darted straight out of the room.
After watching him leave, Aisley picked up her phone and composed a message before sending it out: Caridee has indeed arrived at the wedding banquet. You helped me blow up the hotel, and in return, I'll provide you with this information. We'll call it even with this.
A moment later, a reply came in: Looking forward to our next collaboration, Ms. Aisley.
The banquet hall descended into total chaos.
The recent explosion had ignited deep-seated fear within people, causing them to frantically search for an escape route.
Caridee was jostled by the guests, eventually ending up near the emergency exit in the southeast.
Being rather petite, she struggled to see her surroundings amidst the crowded chaos.
When she glanced backward, a familiar figure came into view.
“Veikko...”
That figure looks a lot like Veikko.
Moreover, he was wearing a black hat, as if deliberately disguising himself.
Didn't he go to run some errands? Why did he suddenly show up here?
“Veikko? Veikko!”
She called out a few more times, but the man still didn't lift his head, as if he hadn't heard her at all.
Considering the distance between us, he shouldn't have any trouble hearing. Besides, his hearing is so sharp, so why would his reaction be so slow?
The more she thought about it, the more she felt something was off.
After some thought, she felt that it was safer to go to Simon.
Having made up her mind, she veered away from the spot where the young man stood and altered her course, heading toward the private room instead.
Not far away, a female bodyguard dressed as a guest lifted her chin in Caridee's direction and said, “That woman just called out 'Veikko'. She must be Caridee. Should we take action immediately or wait a bit longer?”
“What are we waiting for? Waiting for her to meet up with Simon? Once they meet, do you think we'll still be able to catch her?”
“What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get her!”
“Yes.”
Caridee squeezed her way through the bustling crowd and made it into the hallway leading to the private rooms.
There were quite a few people rushing out of the private rooms, making it very difficult for her to take even a single step forward.
Out of nowhere, a surge of pain shot through the back of her neck, and she had an instinctive urge to cry out.
It felt as though something was stuck in her throat, preventing her from saying anything.
In the next moment, her legs gave way, and she fell straight into someone's arms.
Next, she vaguely heard a deep male voice that was unfamiliar to her.
“Please make way for us. My sister is having an asthma attack. Please let us through, thank you.”
The moment her consciousness completely faded away, the only thought in Caridee's mind was: We fell for their trap.
A moment later, Simon squeezed out of the private room. By this time, the banquet hall was almost empty.
As he prayed fervently, he searched through the crowd for Caridee.
“Simon!” Suddenly, a shout sounded behind him, causing him to instinctively turn around.
Seeing Caridee standing unharmed in front of him, he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
“Thank goodness you're okay. Hey, where's your mask?”
Caridee huffed. “You were rushing me, so the mask wasn't glued on properly. It fell off.”
Just as Simon was about to speak, at that moment, Aisley rushed out from the room.
She had already changed out of her wedding dress and was now wearing a pastel-colored long skirt.
After reaching Simon, she lowered her voice and said, “Let's get out of here first. The rooftop has exploded, and it's very dangerous here.”
Simon grabbed an abandoned hat from the ground and placed it on Caridee’s head before taking her hand and rushing toward the exit.
As he had instinctively abandoned Aisley, a dark look crossed her eyes.
No worries. He will be fine in a few days. He must still be mad at me right now.
“Simon, wait for me.”
At the underground parking lot, two bodyguards swiftly dragged the unconscious Caridee to the waiting vehicle and forcefully threw her inside.
“Mr. Carter, the swap went smoothly.”
Shaun stared coldly at the young girl lying on the ground, a glint of bloodthirsty chill flashing in his eyes.
Slowly, he reached out to cradle her chin as he observed her face.
The bodyguard took out a bottle of drug from the bag that Caridee was carrying.
