Zoey began to sneer.
Indeed, a malicious woman like her, always scheming against others, would naturally worry about being schemed against in return. It's always wise to keep a card up one's sleeve.

Indeed, a malicious woman like her, always scheming against others, would naturally worry about being schemed against in return. It's always wise to keep a card up one's sleeve.
“Oh, by the way, your lover, Damien, is still locked up in the other hidden room upstairs. Aren't you planning to rescue him?”
Sofie sneered, “Why keep a dog that's no longer of any use? Moreover, if saving a person involves risking my life, it's even more unlikely for me to do it.”
Zoey clicked her tongue.
How does that saying go again? A woman can be the most ruthless in the room if that's what she wants. It couldn't be better to describe this woman. Damien, that old fellow, somehow managed to pull her out from Tarragon Headquarters. He saved her life, and now she says she can just abandon him without giving it a shred, no, not even half a shred of consideration. So to expect this woman to consider any mother-daughter affection is purely a joke.
“The exit is not far ahead. Where are we going to stay once we get out? Have you made any arrangements? That scoundrel Kurt is after the confidential document in my possession, so he won't let us off the hook. If we're not careful, we could easily fall into his hands again. If that happens, both of us will be in trouble. So you'd better find a hidden place to hide, otherwise, we'll have no good outcomes.”
Zoey let out a cold laugh, her voice light and airy. “Rest assured. Since I've decided to defy him, it means I've already thought of a way out.”
“That's good.”
After the two emerged from the secret passage, they found themselves in a chilling forest.
Sofie extended her hand, pointing to several roads, and began to speak, “This one leads to Derport, this one to Xemrich, this one to Newcove, and this one to Bruiville. We'll head in the direction of wherever you've arranged for us to stay. We're in the forest so we can't mix up the directions.”
With a playful smile, Zoey casually pointed and said, “That path.”
What she wanted to say deep down was she wished to send Sofie to her death.
She knew that this woman had set traps in all four directions—east, west, north, and south, ready to ensnare and eliminate her right then and there.
And that was precisely what she desired.
That was because if she did not fall into a trap, would Sofie go and retrieve the confidential document?
If Sofie didn't go to retrieve the confidential document, how could Zoey follow her and snatch it from her?
After about ten minutes of walking through the woods toward the west, Sofie said while panting, “I'm getting old, can't walk anymore. Let's take a break.”
After speaking, she made a move to lean against the nearby large tree.
As soon as her back touched the tree trunk, the entire ground began to tremble.
Zoey curled her lips.
It really turned out just as she had guessed.
It seemed that in this world, no one understood this awful woman better than her, Zoey.
“W-What did you touch?” she asked, feigning surprise.
Sofie laughed sinisterly. “I'm sorry, my dear daughter. It's survival of the fittest. Might makes right. Either way, today will end with one of us dead. I don't want to die, so it's you who's going to hell. In your next life, make sure to look carefully and don't reincarnate in my belly again. In this life, the bond between us as mother and daughter may be shallow, but it's certainly been intense. Like right now, you could go and die with great intensity.”
“Sofie, you will not meet a peaceful end.”
As the last syllable fell, the ground beneath Zoey's feet rapidly caved in.
A moment later, she fell straight into a deep pit.
Looking at the dense array of holes around her, she seemed to understand what Sofie wanted to do.
Such a malicious mind.
Sofie actually dropped her into a snake pit, intending for these snakes to gnaw at her.
This was her biological mother, indeed.
Haha, I must have been blind back then to believe the nonsense this woman was spouting.
If it weren't for Sofie's instigation in the first place, she wouldn't have done so many foolish things, ultimately being driven out of the Shurmer family and ending up with an unfortunate fate.
She was filled with such intense hatred. Zoey wished she could grind Sofie into dust, consume her flesh, and drink her blood.
“Good girl, this is the grave I've chosen for you. Is it all right? Just rest peacefully here, and if I get the chance, I'll toss Bailey in to keep you company.”
After Sofie finished speaking, she turned around and left.
Zoey sneered.
