Zeke shrugged, nonchalantly saying, “If they're not my people, I'm not interested. Do as you please, Mr. Hoffman.”
Tucker lowered his voice and spoke to his personal bodyguard beside him. “Drag that illegitimate child out and move him somewhere else. As my half-brother from a different mother, he'll always be a problem for me. There's no telling when he might become a stumbling block in my path if I don't be rid of him now.”
“Understood,” replied the bodyguard.
After watching the bodyguard leave, Tucker scanned his surroundings.
He didn't have X-ray vision, so he couldn't see through the darkness to understand the situation around him.
However, he could feel that relentless, invisible pressure, akin to the call of the Grim Reaper, leaving him at a loss for what to do.
“Mr. Shurmer, I have agreed to your demands. Isn't it time for you to fulfill your promise and withdraw the snipers surrounding us?” Although Tucker didn't see any ambush around him, he was certain that Zeke must have had many guns aimed at his head.
Zeke smiled and said, “As long as you don't employ any underhanded tricks or make any sneaky moves, my people won't pull the trigger. On the contrary, if you try pulling any tricks under my watch... Well, I'm sorry to say, this day next year may be your end.”
Though he spoke casually, there was an undeniable force of intimidation in his tone.
Tucker didn't doubt Zeke's words for a second. He's not gentle and refined at all. If anything, he's a ruthless man. He established himself on the international stage and became the leader in the pharmaceutical industry. He's an overlord of the world, not some simple shmuck.
Suddenly, the situation once again fell into a stalemate.
A few minutes later, the bodyguard who hastily left returned. “Mr. Hoffman, there's no trace of Archie in the secret chamber. The guards are all dead, and he seems to have vanished into thin air.”
A hint of anger began to simmer in Tucker's eyes. Letting Archie escape is akin to releasing a tiger back into the mountains! How did he escape so easily with so many bodyguards watching him?
He then shifted his gaze to Zeke. Could it be this guy...
Upon further thought, he deemed it impossible. Archie was imprisoned within the fortified city. To rescue him, the outer defenses must first be breached.
However, when he arrived, the defenses outside were still intact. They hadn't been damaged.
Hence, it probably wasn't Zeke who snatched Archie away.
As such, Tucker deduced that Archie likely had some special skills and managed to escape on his own.
Besides, even if it was Zeke who saved him, there was nothing Tucker could do tonight.
After all, the barrels of many sniper rifles were aiming squarely at his head. He couldn't do anything even if he wanted to.
“Oh, they escaped? Surely Mr. Hoffman isn't planning to pin this on me?” Zeke teased from not far away.
With a fierce grit of his teeth, Tucker decided to escape first and deal with the rest later. Once I'm free, I can arrange for people to catch that little bastard! “Release Juliana! We'll withdraw now.”
After releasing Juliana, his subordinates quickly protected him and swiftly retreated to the outskirts.
Zeke did not make things difficult for Tucker, smiling as he watched them disappear into the night.
Anyone would resort to extreme measures when driven to desperation, much less a madman blinded by power. That was why Zeke didn't do anything.
After all, Juliana was still in the eye of the storm. If Zeke changed his mind and took action against Tucker, the latter might play a dirty trick, possibly dragging his woman down.
Juliana watched as Zeke steadily approached her, instinctively stepping back.
Zeke couldn't help but laugh. “Am I some kind of terrifying beast in your eyes? Did I really scare you that much?”
At that point, a glint flickered in his eyes, a hint of mischief flashing across his gaze.
Then, he changed the subject, speaking in a suggestive tone. “After all, we've gotten to know each other deeply. We are intimately intertwined with each other. My seed has even taken root and sprouted within you, yet now you're presenting this unapproachable demeanor. Isn't that a bit harsh?”
