When Gary first came, he mentioned to her that she would stay in Bartham for a week. His room was also booked for a week's time. But it had already been a week, and he did not seem like he was going to depart at all. She even heard from the janitors in charge of cleaning the presidential suite that Gary seemed to stay in his room all day long, calling the restaurant to send up all three of his daily meals.
His idleness looked more like him coming to vacation in Bartham, and not to talk about business deals.
Gary was a little panicked with her question. "No." He coughed lightly into his right fist to conceal his unease. "I was ill and was hospitalized for a time. Soaring Corporation recently had many things going on too, so Mr. Rogers called me to apologize and told me to wait for a few more days."
Years of working in high-pressure jobs as well as his high position—which only got higher over time—in the industry made Gary develop a bad temper. Under normal circumstances, combined with Cody's neglectful attitude toward him, he would have thrown it all away and left long ago instead of bothering to stay here for even a day more.
But he had just managed to find his long-lost daughter after many years, so the only thing he had on his mind right now was how to close the gap between them and gradually develop a bond with her. He could not figure out what Larissa's thoughts were on a biological father, so he did not dare to tell her the truth. He could only stick around with her quietly and watch over everything that she did.
Hence, the business deal with Soaring Corporation became his reason to "tarry."
Larissa did not suspect him.
Cody could have been extremely busy from Roland's recent passing as well as having to officially take over Soaring Corporation, so it was understandable that he could not give too much attention to Gary—Besides, his working capability was probably worse than even a manager under his command.
"I need to go out tomorrow." Gary cleared his throat, afraid that she might look deeper into things, so he quickly changed the subject. "Could you arrange a car for me at around 10 am?"
"Of course." Larissa's attention was successfully diverted by him. "I will help you make a call later. Once it's been confirmed, I'll send you the driver's number."
…
Meanwhile, Kevan had also received Ron's information from a private investigator and had also ended up discovering Ian by following that lead.
