Spencer was in a meeting at the base when he suddenly felt a sense of panic. A frown appeared on his chiseled face. 'Did something happen to Fiona?' he thought to himself.
'No, it can't be!' He shrugged off the thought. He felt as though he were in a trance and realized that he was only panicking due to the lack of sleep.
"Fiona..." Spencer touched the maple leaf pendant hanging around his neck. 'What does the pendant represent, Fiona?'
In the meeting area, the conference was still going on.
"The passport should be issued in about two weeks. Our superior has now advised for some of us to go to P City to gather information and plan our next move," Eric said.
"That is so daring!" Daniel banged the table and said angrily. "Mr. Cheng, I will to go to P City with you! How dare they abduct Mrs. Cheng? I'll burn them alive!"
The others in the conference room echoed with him.
"Please be quiet," Spencer said sternly.
They all fell silent at once. Spencer continued speaking. "You can't deny that I went to T Country with a hidden agenda. Since Fiona and Celine got kidnapped by the members of X, I have to do my best to rescue them, irrespective of the dangers it can cause me. If I can't even save my family from danger, what good will I be in protecting my country? However,
we're going to T Country not only to save them, but also to destroy X at the earliest. Before we get going, I just want to make sure we all understand that we need to practice caution and not act impulsively or let our emotions get the better of us. You must follow protocol and listen to your superiors at all times.
Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir!" Spencer nodded. "I'll start by assigning your respective roles for the mission. Eric, Daniel!"
"Yes, sir!"
they replied in unison.
"You guys are coming with me to P City..."
In about half an hour, the meeting ended. Everything was planned. Spencer got up from his seat and announced, "Everyone going with me to P City, please go back, pack your things, and get some rest. We will leave first thing tomorrow morning."
"Yes, sir!"
Spencer briskly walked out of the conference room with Eric and noticed the exhaustion on his face. "Go and get some rest. Johnson will take care of packing your things."
"I don't think I can fall asleep." Spencer sighed and smiled at him. "Don't worry about me. You go and relax."
When Eric opened his mouth to reply, the phone in Spencer's pocket rang.
Spencer signaled to him to stay silent while he answered the call on Fiona's phone. It was from Sophia.
"Hello," Spencer said faintly.
"What happened, Fiona? Did you sleep too much? Why didn't you come to school today? We have a test right now! Come here quickly! Ella and I are waiting for you! We have reserved your seat... Hello? Why aren't you saying anything?"
Spencer sighed. "This is Spencer speaking."
"What? Is this a joke? Spencer Cheng?" Sophia opened her mouth wide in shock. "What happened to Fiona? Where is she? Give her the phone!"
"I want to know her whereabouts too." Spencer narrowed his eyes and looked at the sky, feeling sad.
"What? I don't understand," Sophia said anxiously.
"Sophia, Fiona can't come to school today because of a personal matter. Can you request a leave on her behalf?" Spencer said curtly.
"Ask for a leave?" Sophia frowned. "But we have a test today!"
"She can't come to school today on such short notice!"
Spencer yelled at the top of his lungs. "What are you so angry about? Did you bully her? Or did Celine bully her? Or is she still scared after Charles said something to her the other day? You're all sick. Hand the phone to her!" Sophia shouted back, not one to back down.
"Charles?" Spencer read between the lines and quickly asked, "What happened with Charles?"
"Humph! You are not fit to be her husband! I knew she wouldn't want you to know. Charles has his eyes on her. I don't know what he said to her, but it made her so terrified that she rushed home and told me that she would never come to work again. I know you are busy working at the base all day long but would it kill you to care a little about her? You even confessed that you have feelings for her. In my opinion, it's better for her if she doesn't accept your feelings!"
