Take Me Away novel Chapter 130

It was such a silly question that Fiona snorted scornfully,

without realizing that she'd clenched her fists in the process. She didn't know exactly how long she had felt this way, but she had started to expect things from Spencer and even depend on him. Was it because he had come to Maple Mountain to save her? Or was it because of the days she had missed talking to him while he was away? If not, was it the steamy passionate sex between them?

The more she thought about it, the more mysterious it seemed. At that point, she couldn't even bring herself to say, "I don't love you." Instead, she stayed silent.

"Fiona..." Before Spencer could continue, however, he heard a shout.

"Spencer!" Eric ran to them, panting. He glanced at Fiona and then turned back to Spencer. "The meeting has started."

"All right, then." Spencer frowned and waved his hand at Eric, signaling to him to wait for him.

"I'm leaving," Fiona said. When she turned to leave, however, Spencer grabbed her arm.

"Fiona, I'll be waiting for your answer. You can take a few days to think about it." He caressed her cheek softly with a tender look in his eyes. "Think about our future, about whether we can start over. I really need an answer from you."

He then bent down and kissed her cheek. While she stood there stunned, he waved to a few men standing at a distance, signaling to them to come over. "Escort her safely to my dorm room safely."

"Yes, sir," the men replied in unison.

Spencer nodded and walked away. Fiona looked at his receding back as he went, noticing his tall and muscular body, and even the way he walked, which all radiated an impressive strength.

Even though they were married, shared a bed, and had been intimate with each other, little moments like this still made her heart skip a beat. Was she in love with him?

She was clueless as to why she felt so upset, or why she had felt so lost when she had listened to him confess his feelings for her.

"Mrs. Cheng, the weather is scorching hot. Shall we head to the dormitory?"

A man's voice brought Fiona back to reality. She gave him a quick nod and started following the men to the dormitory.

Meanwhile, Eric and Spencer walked to the meeting area.

"Are you okay?" Spencer asked him.

"I'm fine." Eric shook his head, smiling. "I'm not hurt at all."

"It was pouring down there. I couldn't see very well." Eric shook his head. "Now that Mrs. Cheng has returned safe and sound, there's nothing you need to worry about." Eric didn't dare to push it any further. He was afraid that if he said any more, Spencer wouldn't stop until he had his revenge on Charles. Ever since Fiona's return, Spencer hadn't been able to stop worrying about her. He wasn't his usual self anymore. Eric didn't want to add fuel to the fire.

"I think you're hiding something. You better tell me what it is," Spencer said with a meaningful glance at Eric before briskly entering the conference room.

"Mr. Cheng!" The men standing at the door greeted him in unison.

Inside the conference room, Leo was waiting for him, along with several other officers. As soon as Spencer entered, they stood up and saluted him.

"Please, sit." Spencer held his hands in a stiff position as he walked to his seat at the head of the table before taking off his hat. "Let's begin."

This meeting was regarding dealing with X, which was now becoming a public threat. Due to X's activities, M City now had a huge conflict of interest with T Country as well as ZR Company. Hence, X was under serious investigation. The main goal of this meeting was to determine whether they should act against X or not.

"Now is not the time. Many of our men lost their lives while rescuing the two people. I think we should stay put for now, recuperate, and find a better way to attack." Leo was the first one to speak.

"I think now is our chance to fight. We might get hurt, but so will the members of X. We'd better seize this opportunity to catch them off guard. Otherwise, if and when Charles gets protection from the government of T Country, it will be impossible for us to do anything to him."

"I agree. After we crossed the border of T Country and entered its capital, we went to Cherry Grove Residence on a rescue mission but ended up having a gunfight with members of X. This has tarnished out reputation. If we do nothing about it, our higher officials are going to punish us for our incompetency. On the other hand, if we terminate X, we'll have a good reason to justify our actions."
