Take Me Away novel Chapter 145

The man in the dim light had striking features and looked very handsome. His expression so was fierce that the two men would doubt that he could kill them easily. Of course, the man was none other than Spencer.

As the truck was leaving the base, it passed in the space between him and Francis. Spencer took the opportunity to jump into the truck while he was out of Francis' sight. Just a moment later, he heard Francis' furious voice, and realized that his decision to get into the truck was the right one, considering the circumstances.

Without looking back, he pointed the knives at the other two men. "Quick. There's an intersection ten kilometers ahead. Drop me there."

"Yes, yes! Of course! Just please don't kill us!" The driver nodded immediately, sweat running down his forehead as he stepped on the accelerator. "I promise to get you there safely!"

"Sir! Please spare our lives!" the other man pleaded as well.

"I have something to ask you," Spencer said coolly. "Where are you two coming from? Z Country?"

"No, we're actually from T Country. We work at the mine. But we don't know anything! We're good people."

The driver nodded in agreement. "Yes, we're good people!"

Spencer raised an eyebrow at them. "Good people, eh? Good people don't carry weapons. Now, hand over all your weapons to me."

The two men turned towards each other, stunned.

"Are you going to give me your weapons or do you want to bleed?" Spencer threatened.

"No, sir, please don't hurt us!" The man immediately took out his gun. "Here you go!"

"Now, throw it out!" Spencer glanced at the man who was driving and added, "His weapon too. Throw them both out of the window!"

"Yes, sir!" The man was flabbergasted, but he quickly complied and threw his gun out of the window. Then, he grabbed the knife tucked near the driver's waist and tossed that out of the window as well. He then turned to Spencer and smiled tentatively. "Sir, is that okay?"

Spencer ignored him and continued questioning them. "If you're not from Z Country, how do you know our native language?"

"We grew up near the border of Z Country and worked at the mine since childhood. The bosses of the mine are all from Z Country. To make a living, we naturally had to learn the language of Z Country."

"What about those guys at the base dressed in white lab coats? Do you know who they are? What kind of drug are they working on currently?"

"We have no idea what goes on in there! We're only allowed to enter the base to drop off the large jade stones that we find in the mine. And while we're in there, we don't dare to ask any questions. Two other miners used to come here before us, but they were killed recently. We're the new replacements, but we've only been here twice so far. The last time we came here was two months ago."

Spencer asked them a few more questions, but after realizing that they didn't have the information he was looking for, he eventually gave up questioning them.

"Not many people who go into the base unauthorized come out alive. You're lucky!"

"What do you mean?" Spencer asked, puzzled.

"Three years ago, soldiers from T Country attacked the base, but almost two thirds of their men died. As a result, T Country had no choice but to agree to a truce with X, and now, they're partners."

Spencer was startled by this information. "So, T Country is working with X? Why haven't I ever heard of this?"

"I haven't heard of it either!" the driver blurted out in surprise.

"Of course you haven't!" His companion suddenly had a smug smile on his face. "One of the soldiers who works with them is my friend. He already lost a leg because he disobeyed them once. Anyway, this is top secret information. He only revealed this information to me when he was really, really drunk."

After hearing this, Spencer became even more determined to break into the base. X had to be stopped at all costs, no matter the danger he would have to face. Suddenly, he narrowed his eyes as he thought of something. 'Charles won't let Fiona's escape slide. I must destroy his base no matter what happens. That's the only way I can ensure Fiona's and everyone else's safety! I need to destroy that laboratory as well before it's too late.'

The truck sped along the empty forest road. Half an hour passed before it finally came to a halt at the intersection.

"Sir, we've reached the intersection," the driver said tentatively,

not daring to look Spencer in the eye.

Before they could say anything more anything more, Spencer hit them hard on the head, knocking both of them unconscious.

"I'll let you guys live!" Spencer muttered with a snort. Then, he stealthily opened the door and got out of the truck without being seen by anyone nearby.

It was well past midnight and yet P City's defense base was brightly illuminated, especially in the hospital where people were still coming and going. Quite some time had passed since Celine was taken to the operating room. However, no one knew of her current condition.

"Fiona!" George rushed to Fiona on his wheelchair, calling out her name. He soon found her crouching on the corridor floor.

Fiona stared at him in disbelief when she heard his words. She stepped away from him at once, feeling heartbroken. "So, you think I did this on purpose?" she asked in a low voice, choked with sobs. She seemed to have no strength to even stand on her feet.

All of a sudden, the door to the operating room opened.

Spencer sighed, feeling relieved as he didn't know how to answer Fiona's question. He conveniently ignored her and rushed to the door. "How is she?" he asked the doctor.

The doctor shook his head sadly. "Mr. Cheng, we couldn't save the baby. Miss Cheng is still unconscious."

"The baby...died?" Spencer felt a storm of emotions whirling within him. He had never expected that Celine would get pregnant with his child. Now that she had lost his child, he should have felt heartbroken, just like he had the last time Fiona had lost his baby. However, deep in his heart, he felt relieved that the child was dead. He couldn't ignore the fact that he was ashamed of himself for doing such a thing to his own sister. This child shouldn't have existed in the first place.

Standing in the corridor, Fiona felt a chill run down her spine as she watched Celine being wheeled out of the operation room by several nurses.

She had gone through so much in the past few days that her sensitive heart felt numb to all the pain she had endured. She had always thought that she was strong, but now, she felt that she had overestimated herself. After all, she was just a young girl who had been thrown into adulthood too soon. She had lost her parents too early, gotten married too early, seen the darkness of the society too early, and also realized people's coldness too early. Those simple days of her childhood were gone now.

Fiona had no idea that many hours had passed. When she woke up from her sleep, she found herself lying on a small bed in a room. She recollected that she had come to this room a few hours ago looking for a place to sleep in. She had come here because she didn't want to be bothered, but no one had come looking for her. She couldn't help feeling like she was all alone in the world.

At that point, she had no idea of the rumors about her that were spreading at the base like wildfire. After last night's fight between her and Celine, things had become much worse.

"Did you hear? Last night, Mrs. Cheng pushed Miss Cheng, causing her to lose her child. She was so jealous that she caused her a miscarriage!"

"Why would she do such a thing to her husband's sister?"

"Don't you know? Mr. Cheng's sister is pregnant with his child!"

"Shit! That's crazy! Isn't Mrs. Cheng pregnant too?" "I heard that she was kidnapped by members of X and that their leader raped her.

She's pregnant with his child."

"Did you see Mr. Cheng today? He looked furious! We're probably going to be on the receiving end of his frustration."

"Great. We're all being dragged into this family drama."
