'An abortion? Don't let me know?'
Fiona thought to herself as she lay in the hospital bed, which reeked of disinfectant. Her thoughts were cloudy. She felt like she was dreaming. Why were they talking about an abortion? She thought she must be hallucinating to hear such a ridiculous thing.
"Mr. Cheng, why don't we wait until Mrs. Cheng wakes up?"
"I say you do it right now!" Spencer shouted. "Don't make me say it again!"
"Yes, Mr. Cheng! We'll arrange the surgery right away!"
Fiona was now wide awake and her temples were throbbing with pain.
"Go ahead!" Spencer replied in a rough voice.
Fiona hadn't opened her eyes yet but a stream of tears started to flow from her eyes.
It turned out that she hadn't been hallucinating. It was actually happening. 'I'm pregnant? And Spencer wants to give me an abortion without even asking me?'
She heard the sound of footsteps coming from a distance.
It seemed like some of the staff were walking in a hurry.
It took her every last bit of the strength left in her body to open her eyes. She saw Spencer drawing the curtains to a side as he walked in.
"I'm pregnant?" she whispered. Her eyes were blood red.
"You're awake?" Startled, he glanced at Fiona. He was overcome with panic and anxiety.
"Answer me," Fiona breathed.
"Fiona, I'm a bad person. This is my fault," Spencer said guiltily. He had a lump in his throat. He raised his hand and stroked Fiona's pale face. "I was angry when I pushed you out of the car. I forgot that you hadn't fastened your seat belt. I should have..." After a long pause, he tried to suppress his guilt and continued, "I was just trying to scare you."
"I just need to know if I'm pregnant. Don't touch me!" Fiona screamed and shoved his arm away.
He withdrew his hands and clenched his fists. He pursed his lips and remained silent.
Turning her head to the other side, she started to weep. She didn't know how to express her feelings. She had been pushed out of the car for no reason, and now she learned that she was pregnant. But before she could even understand what was going on, Spencer wanted her to have an abortion. It was so cruel! He didn't care about her feelings at all. There wasn't even time for her to say goodbye to her baby.
"Mr. Cheng, the operation room is ready." The nurse's meek voice came from outside the door. "Excuse me, can we take Mrs. Cheng to the operation room now?"
"No, don't do that..." Hearing the nurse talk, Fiona got up in her bed, lifted up her sheets, and placed her hands on her abdomen. She was in tears as she warned, "Don't come closer! I don't want to go! I don't want to go through the surgery!"
"What?" asked the nurse in shock. The nurse looked at Fiona and then at Spencer, her eyes widening in panic.
"Fiona..." Spencer tried to control his body from shaking. Doing his best to speak in a soft voice, he said, "You are not pregnant. It's just... You've been wounded near your waist. We need to do a surgery, and it will be over soon. After the surgery, everything will be fine. Okay?"
"Spencer Cheng!" Fiona yelled angrily. "You are still not telling me the truth!" She whimpered as she gazed at him in complete horror and rage.
"I..."
"Stay there!"
Before Spencer could take another step, Fiona became hysterical. She threw a pillow at him and screamed, "I'm leaving! Let me go! I won't go through the surgery!"
