It was terrible news for Barnes.
He was surely shaken by it, but he also didn't know what to do next.
"What do you think I should do?" Barnes turned to Darren.
"The only thing you can do now is find the Inner Fiend and kill him or assimilate him. This is the only way you can have a chance of survival," said Darren, firmly.
"You're right. I must kill the Inner Fiend!" Barnes was now frantic. His mind was scattered and he couldn't focus. All he wanted to do now was to find the Inner Fiend and never let him escape!
"Go with me, Darren. Come on. Help me out," said Barnes, in exaggerated pity.
"Gosh Barnes, I'm too weak to help you." Darren felt relieved that he hadn't shown his true strength to the Barnes.
"Damn it! Tsk!"
Barnes had gone from frantic to purely irritated. He knew what he had to do but he was worried about going about it all alone.
"I'll just have to do my best, then," sighed Barnes. He trudged away in a mild tantrum.
He had no choice but to leave by himself.
After Barnes left, the Water Kylin was confused. He knew that Darren was lying, since the Inner Fiend had already been suppressed.
"Master, you lied to him. Could it be, that you found a treasure and you just don't want to share it with him?" The Water Kylin smiled greedily as he drooled at the thought.
"What? There's no treasure! A crisis is coming!"
"What crisis?" said the Water Kylin in shock. It was a quick turn of events.
"It's hard to explain right now. Wait for me here, and I'll tell you about it as soon as I get back."
Darren immediately sent a message to the witcher ancestor, asking him to transfer him to the river at the thirteenth layer of restriction.
A stream of Witcher Power began to wrap around Darren and lift him up. He felt his body slowly lighten as he felt more and more floaty. He looked at his arms and his body and noticed he had become transparent as well.
Darren proceeded to trudge on. The restrictions were of no hindrance to him at all, because of the state he was in now. He kept going until he reached the thirteenth layer.
When he tried to access the fourteenth layer, he found that he could go no further. He supposed that was the limit of the Witcher Power bestowed on him.
Darren sank into the bottom of the River of Forgetfulness and looked for the cave that the witcher ancestor had mentioned.
He used his powerful spiritual sense, and in no time, found the cave and entered it.
The interior was damp and terribly cold. An eerie darkness matched the chill of the air.
Darren was lucky he possessed the True Ice Spiritual Body. Otherwise, he would have frozen to death.
He flew on within the cave, and about three days later, he reached a wider part of the cave.
"Huh? What's that?"
Darren sensed a stone tablet about a thousand feet high in front of him.
He quickly bolted towards the stone tablet and stopped right in front of it. There were ancient writings on the tablet that Darren could not recognize.
"Could she have gotten the information from this stone tablet?"
Darren murmured to himself. He pondered on it, and felt it was impossible. If it was this easy to find the information about the World Essence, then the witcher ancestor would have already found it out himself. He didn't need to send Darren here to figure it out.
Darren decided to ignore the stone tablet and carry on throughout the cave.
After flying for another ten days, Darren reached the end of the cave.
"How strange! There's nothing in here."
During his days of flight, Darren continuously scanned the walls of the cave with his spiritual sense. He knew he couldn't have missed anything. The sole object of significance was the stone tablet.
Darren decided to head back to the stone tablet.
"What the hell does this mean?" Darren was unable to comprehend the words written on the tablet. How was he supposed to get any information out of it?
"Perhaps I could ask Finley to give it a shot.
He's a powerful rule cultivator, and he's also inherited some of his real body's memories. He might know what these words are."
A moment later, Darren summoned Finley from the Ancient Void Battlefield.
"What's up, Darren?"
"Do you recognize the words on this stone tablet?" asked Darren, straightforwardly.
