It took some time but Doris finally calmed down. She ran her fingers through her hair then buried her face in her hands. She asked herself exasperatedly, "Ugh! Doris, do you love Jay or not?" Dammit! I don't know whether I really love him or not. But it's true that I love money!"
Every time she tried thinking about love, she felt tormented!
She couldn't even look Jay directly in the eyes. They had spent every day together, yet she still had to be cautious around him.
Anyway, today was the day for her antepartum examination. She had already planned on asking Nancy to come with her. But out of the blue, Jay wanted to go to the hospital with her. She didn't quite expect him to take the initiative.
Doris somewhat felt flattered. He was so sweet!
They were in the car when she saw a scene she wasn't expecting to see. As they drove past a coffee shop, she saw Charles sitting across an attractive woman.
"What a jerk! Charles is supposed to get married to Nancy soon. How could he be on a date with another woman?! Stop the car right now! I want to go in and take a look!" Doris was getting so worked up that she ended up shouting.
"Don't be ridiculous! You don't even know the truth yet. Stop jumping to conclusions! What if she's actually a client? What should we do then? Let's not embarrass ourselves." Jay knew Charles better than Doris did. Charles wasn't a man of loose morals. He wouldn't do something so dishonest. However, he couldn't understand why he didn't have an assistant or bodyguard with him. If he was meeting a client, why would he go alone?
This arrangement did seem more like a date! But he couldn't say that out loud, especially to Doris. If he did, she would immediately jump out of the car!
So to prevent this disaster, Jay sped up the car and took her to the hospital as fast as he could.
He honestly hoped that Nancy was in the operating room. If Doris didn't see her today, then maybe she would forget about this whole thing and move on.
But as soon as they arrived at the hospital, the complete opposite thing happened. Nancy was at the front desk because she just accompanied a patient downstairs.
"Hey, Nancy!" When she saw her, Doris walked hurriedly towards the front desk.
Nancy met her halfway and held on to her arm. She thought there had been an emergency. But as soon as she saw Jay, she understood why she was here. "Are you here for your antepartum examination? How have you been?"
Doris seemed anxious. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me. But I wanted to talk to you about something. When we were driving here, I saw..."
Jay immediately interrupted her. This is what he was afraid of. Doris might say something inappropriate. "We have an appointment, remember? The doctor's waiting for you. How about you just catch up with Nancy later, okay?" He began to steer her towards the elevator.
However, Doris pushed him away. "No! What if something happens between Charles and that woman? Nancy deserves to know!"
Nancy was stunned. "Doris, what are you talking about? You saw Charles?" She couldn't believe what she just heard.
"Don't listen to her, Nancy. It's pure nonsense. We're already late for her antepartum examination. Let's go, Doris!" Jay started dragging her away as she struggled to break free from his grasp.
"I've seen it all, Jay. Men are such bastards! We don't deserve this kind of treatment. Why are you stopping me? Nancy needs to know that Charles is doing something inappropriate! Let go of me! I have to tell her! " Doris kept struggling and pushing Jay away. She was causing such a fuss that people were starting to look at them.
Obviously, Nancy felt bothered by this startling news. She grabbed Jay's arm and said, "Jay, let go of Doris. I want to know where Charles is now." She decided that she had to see it for herself.
He was now backed into a corner thanks to Doris' stubbornness. "It must be a misunderstanding. Do you really believe what Doris is saying?" Jay said helplessly. He didn't know what else to say. He didn't want Nancy and Charles to get into a fight because of this.
"Well, if I shouldn't believe her, are you saying I should believe you instead?" Nancy asked with a serious look on her face.
When he heard that, Jay didn't object anymore. He loosened his grip on Doris and took out his phone to call Charles. However, Nancy snatched it away before he could dial Charles' number. "Jay, drive us to where he is! I need to see it for myself!"
"I'm not so sure about this..." Jay scratched his chin awkwardly. He didn't want to be caught in the middles of this mess.
"Jay, if you really love me, you'll listen to Nancy! Take us there now!" Doris demanded arrogantly. She knew that saying this was a sure-fire way to make Jay agree.
Sure enough, Jay nodded in agreement. When she put it like that, how could he say no? "Fine, I'll drive you there!"
A few moments later, they arrived at the MX Coffee Shop.
For the whole ride, Nancy didn't think too much about it. It must have been a misunderstanding, just like what Jay said.
That was what she thought until she saw Charles with the attractive woman in the coffee shop. They sat facing each other and looking at their mobile phones. It seemed like they were chatting on it.
Their actions looked too suspicious! Nancy felt like there was really something going on here.
After parking the car, Jay was feeling a little annoyed. "What are you waiting for? Let's go in there. If you have any questions, you can ask Charles yourself. After this, we can finally go the hospital. I guess this is more important that Doris' appointment anyway," he said sarcastically.
Just as he was about to get out of the car, Nancy spoke. "No! I don't need to ask him anything else." She grabbed his arm and stopped him. She didn't want to go inside and confront him.
It didn't matter whether Charles was dating that woman or not. All she knew was seeing them together had already hurt her!
Nancy didn't get out of the car. She just sat in it and continued to watch.
