Chadwick froze when he spotted the smirk on Caspian's face as the latter looked at him. That bastard had to be the one behind this mess!
He didn't know who Caspian was, but it was clear that Caspian had connections to the authorities.
"I'll sign the application, Mr. Lynch!" Chadwick said with an awkward smile.
But Caspian took back the document.
"Now you want to sign it? What a shame. It's too late!" Caspian remarked as he eyed Chadwick with an amused smirk.
"Mr. Lynch, what are you …" Chadwick trailed off as he stared at Caspian in confusion.
"I've given you enough chances, and now, I don't need your signature anymore. You'll be heading off to prison soon!" Caspian said.
"What?"
Chadwick was dumbfounded.
What was going on? Was he getting arrested? Was there no way out of this, not even if he agreed to sign the application? Was he about to go to prison?
Falling to his knees, he pleaded tearfully, "Please, Mr. Lynch. Please have mercy on me. I'll sign the application."
"Why didn't you do it when I gave you the chance earlier? What's the point of doing this now?" Caspian asked with a smile.
Banging his head on the floor, Chadwick continued to plead, "I was wrong, Mr. Lynch. I was a blind and ignorant fool. Please have mercy on me."
It finally dawned on him that he needed to do as told if he wanted to keep his position.
Alas, Chadwick's reaction disgusted Caspian. It was bastards like Chadwick who polluted Diatoran with their corrupted behavior.
All along, Chadwick acted pompously due to his position. But now that he was getting arrested, he chose to grovel and beg for mercy.
Was there any reason to keep useless waste of spaces like Chadwick around? It was not as if he would contribute to the nation in any way.
"Take him away. Make sure he gets the punishment he deserves!" Caspian said to the men from the Inspector General's office.
"Got it," they replied.
One of them brought out a set of handcuffs as they got ready to escort Chadwick away.
Terrified, Chadwick begged, "I was wrong, Mr. Lynch! I know I made a terrible mistake! Please give me another chance! I'm begging you, please!"
Caspian ignored him. He wasn't going to keep such men around.
"Let's go!"
The inspectors started pulling Chadwick toward the door.
"I work for the Gasses! How dare you arrest me?" Chadwick hollered, but his efforts were in vain as the inspectors dragged him out.
Before leaving, one of the inspectors said, "Lord Caspian, the governor has said that you're free to do whatever you want in Dhord City."
"Understood," Caspian replied with a nod.
Caspian and the governor of Dhord City had a fairly good relationship. Even though Southlake Corporation's application was still unsigned, the governor could settle things out for them with just a simple command.
The next day, a staggering piece of news broke out.
Over 100 government officials in Enies had lost their jobs, and a great majority of them were connected to the Gasse family.
Meanwhile, things were all set for Southlake Corporation's new branch office in Enies.
…
Over at Gasse Residence in Dhord City, Zayn had flown into a rage and was now smashing everything he could get his hands on.
"Fucking hell! They're nothing but a bunch of useless bastards! They couldn't even stop Southlake Corporation!" Zayn roared.
Even though he had gotten involved, he still failed to impede them.
Furthermore, the people that the Gasses placed in important positions in Enies had all been captured as well.
"Mr. Gasse, Mr. Gasse Senior wants to see you." One of the household staff came to inform Zayn.
Zayn immediately felt a sense of dread. His father, Linus Gasse, must have heard about the mess.
He steeled himself and went over to the study.
Linus, the head of the Gasse family, was sitting at his desk with a grim expression.
He had just heard the news that all of the Gasses' allies in important positions had been arrested.
