The Alpha King's Rejected Mate (Nyx and Lycus) novel Chapter 34

Lycus's pov

             I flinched as her palm landed on my cheek, the effect of the hit turning my face sideways. I couldn't retaliate. If it was to be another person they would have been dead by now but in this case it was different, very different.

"You are such a fucking idiot!" She cursed at me glaring daggers but I kept mute, "You are the cause of this! Look what the poor girl is going through all because of you, Lycus!" She shrieked at me.

"How the hell is this all my fault?" I snapped back at her, "How is it my fucking fault?!"

Are you seriously asking that genius?! Spyro snorted at me loving the exchange between us, he was glad that I was getting reprimanded.

"If you had accepted her as your luna and treated her as the one destined for you, if you had loved her and respected her, no one would dare lay a hand on her be it you being present or not!" She let it all out in one breath, "But no, I raised a fool!"

"Mother." I said lowly, "I am sorry."

"You are sorry?" She scoffed, "Look at her." She pointed her Nyx laying still on the bed, "You should be fucking sorry to her, who knows if she would survive?"

I didn't have a reply to give her as guilt began to gawn at me.

"You do not know how blessed you are having finally found your mate." She said tearing up and I didn't know if to draw her in an embrace or stay where I was due to her anger, "Your father passed on leaving me heartbroken and no one has ever filled his void but here you are having the luxury of a mate but you chose to be stupid." She sniffed wiping her tears.

I moved closer to her and drew her in a hug which she didn't refuse as I had feared, "I am so sorry mum." I patted her back, "And as you know, it isn't entirely my fault, I told you Xerxes had said that I was bewitched with a spell causing me to hate my mate."

"And he also said that for it to work, you must have hated her kind yourself." She reminded me.

"And also having hate for her Kind isn't my fault." I chipped in, "You already know what happened before and how I can't trust her."

"She isn't like that son."

"I can't take chances." I said and she sighed in defeat, "It's really hard on me."

"You just have to try. " She smiled up at me before moving away from my embrace, "I have got matters to attend to son, I will see you later." She kisses my cheek before vanishing into thin air.

               I rubbed my temple with my fingers as I moved towards Nyx on the bed. I sat on it and leaned in towards her caressing her hair with my fingers, I felt the sparks but they were dull which frightened me, she was slowly slipping away. I moved from her hair to her face tracing it, taking note of the scars that covered it.

My heart lurched knowing someone had hurt my mate and observing her up close began to make me wonder what her story was.

No Lycus, I chided myself, Not again, you can't be a fool twice. I stood up from the bed abruptly and walked towards the door, my hand wrapped around the door knob and I casted one last glance at her before walking out of the room.

          My eyes scanned the pages briefly before flipping it aside and moving on to the next. I had a lot of workload which were slowed down cause of my mood being affected my Nyx's state.

I picked the next file and did the same like I had done for the others. I put it aside and was about to take the next when I heard my office door open.
