The Alpha's Surprised Mate (Book #1 of Silver Moon Series) novel Chapter 139

One-Hundred Thirty-Eight: Council

Dustin

When I got home that night from the office, Brighton was standing by the door. I wasn’t worried, but it was also not normal. We really should stop using that word around here. There is not anything normal about this pack or what happens around here. He pulled out a large envelope and handed it to me. I looked at it, and I became nervous.

“When did it come?” I asked.

“It was delivered earlier this afternoon by a member of the council.” He tells me.

“I guess I should open it,” I say.

He gives me a nod and says he will gather everyone. Everybody knew what I was trying to do. We still have no idea who sent the paper trail on Darrius to the council. We all had our suspicion but now proof. I hadn’t heard anything from the council for a month or more. I honestly thought that they let him off and would do nothing. I went and changed out of my suit and headed back down to the rec room. Everyone was there when I arrived, including all of our parents. I actually handed the envelope to dad. I was too worked up to open it myself.

“Chickenshit,” Mykenzie mumbled.

“Oh shut up,” I told her.

I heard Kylani laugh at the two of us. I should have known they would say something. I had half a mind to tell Kaleb to control his women, but I also didn’t want to wake up and find myself with coloured hair or turned into something. There were still pranks being played, but there always are. This house is full of guys; of course, pranks will be played on each other. However, the girls give just as well as we do. Maybe even better, but I will never tell them that.

“Well, what does it say?” Kaleb asked.

“They have stripped Darrius of his alpha title and the council will be here in a week to formally turn his pack over to you,” Dad says.

Well, shit, I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding. The letter went on to say that they were going to take Darrius and Thomas into custody. There was another letter in there telling us that those two had abandoned the pack and ran.

The council has no idea where those two are. I am not surprised that they ran. I am sure they are with Asmoday wherever he is.

I sat there with the biggest smile on my face. I already knew what that letter said. The council hated Darrius, so we already knew they would be more than happy to strip his alpha title. They had been watching him for years now. The information that just happened to surface was the icing on the cake. I knew the process was going to take a while. The council had a specific way they had to proceed. I was expecting it to happen a bit faster than this. The whole process has taken two months. I was somewhat surprised that Darrius and Thomas ran. I really thought he would try and fight this more. I know he hated this pack. I really feel sorry for his pack now though they will see how a pack should be run.

“You know we are gonna have to keep an eye on the newbies,” I say.
