Harmony POV.
The closer I get to the building, I can hear music and the laughter of the people inside. I grip the gun in my hand and scan the surrounding area.
There is a screen door and I can see both Melody and James sitting against a wall. Melody is comforting James, and I smile at this. She doesn’t look scared, but James is terrified.
I could grab them from here, but I know that the screen door is going to make noise. They always do. So I duck down and walk around the building hidden by the trees and overgrowth. I see a window. I look at Mav and make the signal pointing to my eyes, then to the window. He nods once and I sneak to the window.
I listen for any sound coming from the room and it’s quiet. I grip the window ledge and do a quick glance. Empty and I can see Melody’s head. I look from her to the room in front of her. There are men and woman drinking and doing drugs. But no one is paying attention to the kids.
I drop back down and crouch again.
“Ok, the room is empty. The members aren’t watching the kids. I can get them out. But I need you to stay here to help them out.” I say to him when he looks at me like I’ve grown an extra head.
“I’m going to climb in and bring them to me. I will get them out of the window and you take them back to the cage. I will distract the idiots inside.” He goes to protest, but I’m sneaking back to the screen door.
I whistle and James looks right at me and his eyes light up; I hold my finger to my mouth as Melody looks at me and I make the signal again, pointing to my eyes and then hitching my thumb behind me. She is one smart cookie and looks behind her and nods once. Good girl.
I point to myself and point to where I’m going to go. Then I move.
“This is not going to work.” Mav says and I roll my eyes and look at him.
“Not with that attitude it won’t. Now help me with the window.” I say as I stand and Mav grips the side of the window and pulls it open. No noise, thank god.
Mav gives me a boost, and I slip in through the window and hide.
I hear boots on the floorboards and stick close to the wall.
“You and your little friend will bring us a lot of money. Wouldn’t that be nice? You get to live with other people?” Not on your life will those kids be going anywhere but back to POD.
“My daddy and his friends will come for us and they will hurt you.” James speaks up and I smile at that. The biker laughs at him.
“Sure they will, but no matter. By the time they figure it out, you both will be long gone.” The biker laughs as he walks away, shouting for one of the women. I peek around the doorway and see the scumbags have gone back to having their party.
“Psst, Melody, James. I need you both to crawl to me now.” I whisper I move further back with my gun trained on the room ahead of me. Melody moves first, followed closely by James.
Melody sees her daddy, and she smiles. I stand and grab Melody and rush with her to the open window. I lift her and pass her to Mav. Then do the same with James.
Mav holds his hand out to me. I look back at the room and then at Mav.
