"Kieran, chill out, will you?" Eloise grabbed Kieran's arm and turned to Preston with an apologetic look. "Mr. Tyler, I'm so sorry. I bet you had no idea about Ms. Dawson's... you know, her ties."
Then, turning a reproachful gaze toward Freya, Eloise added, "Ms. Dawson, seriously, you're engaged to Mr. Sutton. Making a scene like this in broad daylight? Come over here, now!"
Eloise moved to pull Freya away, but Hans quickly stepped before her, making it clear Eloise wasn't getting past him.
Eloise's hand was just hanging there awkwardly, and her face was starting to turn sour.
Seeing Eloise's peacemaker act, Freya couldn't help but laugh. "Ms. Harwood, I saw you cozying up with Mr. Sutton. Maybe you didn't know Kieran was off the market."
That shut Eloise up. Yeah, who didn't know Freya was Kieran's fiancée? But since Kieran's heart seemed to belong to Eloise, Freya was nearly invisible to everyone.
But everyone seemed to forget. Parading around with someone else's fiancé was not just tacky. It was homewrecker territory.
"Freya, come here," Kieran ordered.
But Freya didn't budge. Seeing her defiance, Kieran took a step forward.
Suddenly, Freya hid behind Preston, shivering as if she'd been scared out of her wits.
In no time, her eyes welled up with tears, looking pitiful enough to soften the hardest of hearts.
Watching her act, Preston barely concealed a smirk.
