“Ms. Dawson's ID went missing at the venue and ended up in my hands. And what do you know, my assistant here was without an ID as well, so we thought, 'Why not use it for a bit?' Mr. Sutton, you know how it is. The folks we deal with aren't the cleanest. Living in a law-abiding place like Echo City can be a challenge."
Though Preston said this with a casual shrug, Kieran wasn't buying it for a second. "I'd rather have my people take a thorough look around. Anyway, someone saw you two leaving Summit University together."
"Who saw us?" Preston's interest piqued, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes. "I'd like to meet this person."
In Echo City, or anywhere else, no one dared cross Preston.
Kieran knew she wouldn't dare point a finger at Freya and Preston in his presence even if he called Kara over.
Jarrett approached and informed Kieran, "We've searched everywhere, Mr. Sutton. There’s no sign of Ms. Dawson."
"If you can't find her, keep looking till you do," Kieran ordered, his voice cold as ice. "The hotel's not that enormous. There's no way Freya has suddenly grown wings and flown off."
"Understood," Jarrett immediately ordered more staff to continue the search.
Uninterested in the ongoing drama, Preston announced, "Mr. Sutton, enjoy your search. I'll be on my way."
With that, Preston swiped his card and disappeared into his room.
Meanwhile, Freya had slipped away from the Echo City Hotel unnoticed, thanks to a borrowed hat.
When Kieran tried calling her again, Freya saw his name flash on her phone and promptly hit decline. Answering his call would only scream guilt!
Twenty minutes later, Freya was back at Summit University.
Having just finished two classes, Luna was dozing off in the classroom. The sight of Freya instantly woke her up. "Good heavens! How did you get back so quickly?"
It had only been two classes!
"Didn’t you message me about seeing Kara and Kieran together? Where's Kara?"
