Leland had always been mean and heartless back in school. Johanna, his mom, spoiled him rotten since he was a little boy, convinced he was the prince of the Dawson family and could do no wrong.
At Echo City University, Leland's status meant he could rule the roost. But where were they? They were in the heart of high society, where even setting foot inside required pedigree.
Yet, Leland had brought along a bunch of his middle-class mates. Such disregard for the occasion had rubbed the elite the wrong way. In their eyes, an event at the Majestic Manor Hotel was no place for Leland's friends.
After knocking back another glass of champagne, Violet went off to the bathroom and Leland saw his chance. He gave his minions a nod to corner her.
“Let’s check it out,” Freya said, leading Luna toward the corner.
They saw Leland’s lackeys blocking Violet's way.
Realizing the situation, Violet tried to back away. “Leland, what do you think you’re doing?”
Leland was visibly upset not to see fear on Violet's face. “What do I think I’m doing? The Dawson family honored you by considering you my fiancée, and this is how you repay me? By disrespecting me?”
Drunk and frustrated, Leland grabbed Violet, attempting to force a kiss on her.
The crowd started to heckle, but they didn't bet on Violet to have so much sass. She slapped Leland across the face, turning half of it bright red.
