The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday novel Chapter 213

Freya quickly realized Preston was doing this on purpose! He ordered a rare steak to tease her, huh?

"Mr. Tyler, I think there are some things we need to clear up ahead of time."

"Speak."

"I had no clue about the crimes you've committed."

"Hmm."

"So, dragging me into this mess out of the blue, don't you think you owe me a foolproof plan to protect myself?"

"What, you mean if I end up behind bars, I should also clear your name?"

"I'm not guilty!"

"So, what are we discussing right now?"

"You!"

Freya was well aware that Preston was feigning ignorance very cleverly. He was confident she wouldn't dare spit out the billion-dollar money laundering scheme. Once she did, she'd become an accomplice. And if this ended up in court, she'd have no defense.

Seeing Freya's face turn red, Preston said with amusement, "Ms. Dawson, you claimed to be brave, and now, you're backing down? The world has always been about high risk, high reward. If you're scared, you'll get trampled on, a mere stepping stone for others. It's survival of the fittest. Ms. Dawson, you need to be stronger than Kieran if you want to call off the engagement. Otherwise, you'll have to return to playing the dutiful housewife once the wedding date arrives."

Freya understood everything Preston was saying. After her past experiences, she'd rather die than be an accessory to Kieran, someone he never truly cared for.

‘Love yourself before you love others. If you can't even love yourself, how can you expect others to love you?’
