In the hospital, Kieran had no idea how long he had waited before the surgery light finally turned green. He saw the lead surgeon and a few nurses wheeling out the gurney.
When he spotted Freya lying on the operating table, Kieran immediately moved forward, only to be swiftly blocked by a nurse who said, "Sorry. The patient needs to rest quietly now, and she said she didn't want to see you."
Hearing Freya didn't want to see him made Kieran's heart sink.
At that moment, Jarrett had received a call from the police department. He stepped forward and said to Kieran, "Mr. Sutton, our people just got there, and the female inmate is dead."
"How did she die?"
"It was Preston."
At that, Kieran let out a cold laugh. So, it was Preston's doing. It seemed Freya and Preston were closer than he thought. Preston was not one to stick his neck out for someone he didn't value.
"Let's settle scores with her later. Freya's injury is what matters now."
"But Mr. Sutton, it's getting late. Mrs. Sutton will start asking questions."
It was already midnight, and he would have a significant meeting in the early morning. Audrey had made it clear that Kieran was to come home early, especially since they argued that morning.
"You go back first. Send the documents for tomorrow's meeting to my phone. I'll stay here."
"You're... staying here?" Jarrett thought he had misheard. Since when did Mr. Sutton personally stay by someone's bedside?
"Enough talk. Just do as I say."
