Imagine being the unluckiest person in the bunch. That was Freya's thought as she lay low, nursing her wounds at home. Her strategy was simple. She would keep her distance from Kieran, stick close to Preston, align with Ronan, and, whatever happened, don't cross Caleb. That way, she figured her future wouldn't end in tragedy.
As evening approached, Kieran returned to the Sutton Mansion, only to see Kara, clad in a white dress, offering him slippers and eagerly attempting to help him out of his jacket.
"Mr. Sutton, let me help."
Kieran barely glanced at her, not interested in her assistance.
Kara awkwardly pulled back her hand, feeling the sharp sting of rejection.
"Nancy?" Kieran called out but received no reply.
Kara stepped forward. "Is there something you need, Mr. Sutton? I'm here to help."
She was hopeful, having donned a dress chosen by Johanna, one of Eloise's favorites. Eloise even had an identical one.
Acknowledging her lingering presence, Kieran asked, "Who allowed you into my home?"
Rather than feeling insulted as most would, Kara meekly apologized, "I'm sorry, Mr. Sutton. I thought Mrs. Sutton had informed you..."
"Kieran, don't frighten her," a voice came from inside. Audrey, supported by Nancy, approached.
Holding back tears, Kara looked even more pitiful.
Seeing Kara's demeanor pleased Audrey, who then scolded Kieran, "Kara is a distant cousin from the Dawson family. Mrs. Dawson sent her here to express gratitude for your support with her education. Don't be so harsh."
"Gratitude? By offering herself?" Kieran scoffed. "Mrs. Dawson is indeed eager to bind her family to the Suttons. Freya left, and in comes Kara. So insatiable."
