The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday novel Chapter 297

Freya couldn't help but feel self-conscious as she caught Preston's gaze drifting toward her. Quickly, she diverted her attention, only for it to land on the sandwich Hans was devouring with the enthusiasm that made it seem like a delicacy despite it being a plain sandwich.

"Ms. Dawson, would you like a sandwich?" Hans asked, noticing her curious gaze.

"Could I?" Freya inquired with hesitation.

"Of course," Hans replied, fetching another sandwich from the kitchen counter and placing it before her.

Freya added some cheese and took a bite. It was, after all, a sandwich and cheese—nothing extraordinary.

"If it's not to your liking. Don't force yourself," Preston said without looking up.

Freya glanced at the sandwich in her hand and retorted, "Who said so? It's quite nice for a change." Then, she took another defiant bite.

Preston couldn't help but smile at her reaction.

Despite her usually small appetite, Freya finished the entire sandwich because she didn’t want to waste it. Thankfully, the portion wasn't too large, so she could enjoy a satisfying meal at Preston's without feeling overwhelmed.

"Full?" Preston inquired, noticing Freya's slightly flushed cheeks.

Shocked, Freya quickly noticed that most were missed calls from Kieran, several messages from Jarrett, and a flood of texts and app notifications. Kieran had sent numerous messages the night before, none of which Freya received because her phone was off.

Her complexion darkened. ‘Could Kieran have realized I wasn't in my apartment last night?’

"Ms. Dawson, the boss wants you in his study," Hans informed her.

"I can't go to the study now. I need to head home," Freya stated, not wanting to provoke Kieran further against the Dawson family.

With the Dawson Group still in a precarious stage of development, any move from Kieran could jeopardize her plans. With that thought, Freya hastily gathered her things. Preston appeared at the doorway as she was about to leave the room.
