The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday novel Chapter 349

Eloise murmured, her voice tinged with confusion.

There was a time when Kieran looked at her with nothing but adoration. But now, it felt like an invisible chasm had formed between them, growing wider with each passing moment.

Kieran said coldly, "Jarrett, please escort Ms. Harwood out."

That formal 'Ms. Harwood' erected an insurmountable wall between them instantly.

"As you wish, Mr. Sutton," Jarrett responded, approaching Eloise calmly, which belied the situation. Eloise's hand, which weakly held a carving knife—not with any real intent of harm, but merely as a desperate ploy for attention—was gently relieved of its burden by Jarrett. Such theatrics, meant to manipulate through fear of loss, were distasteful to men like Kieran. They only served to complicate matters unnecessarily.

As Jarrett led Eloise away, Eloise’s eyes remained on Kieran, searching for any sign of the connection they once shared. But Kieran offered no such consolation.

Left alone in his office, Kieran sank into his chair, exhausted. He recalled Naylor's passing and the solemn promise to watch over Eloise. Yet, at this moment, Kieran couldn't shield her any longer. Instead, he couldn't stop thinking of Freya, injured and vulnerable. Had he known the challenges she faced at Summit University sooner, he would never have stood idly by.

Jarrett re-entered the office, breaking the heavy silence.
