“Is there a problem?”
“It’s bad for my reputation,” Freya added.
Preston just shrugged, not bothered. "I do what's easy and helps me out. I don't care about other people's rep," he said.
“You…”
Truly, he was the man who had once fiercely competed with Kieran in their past lives.
Freya held back her frustration.
What else could she do? Fight him?
Then she’d surely be the one to end up worse off.
She imagined a hundred ways she might lose that battle. So, she chose to bite her tongue.
Preston changed the subject. “How did the exams go?”
“Thanks to you, absolutely brilliantly.”
“Hmm.”
Preston said, “Hand me your left hand.”
“Why?” Freya asked, though her left hand was already reaching out to him.
Preston placed a jar of ointment in her hand.
Freya recognized it; it was similar to the one Kieran had once specially made for her.
“Where did you get this?”
She remembered that this wasn't something you could just buy. It was something special Kieran made just for her. You couldn't even get it if you were ready to pay top dollar.
Preston simply said, “Neil sent it.”
“Oh.”
