The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 189

Jeffrey closed his eyes and kept quiet as he listened to the conversation between Cayden and Allie.

After a brief pause, Allie came up with an idea and put all of the blame on Lily.

“I never knew you had so many questions about me... I would've answered them all if you had just asked me, but you never did!”

She then started sobbing again as she recalled the memories of the past. “Back then, I was forced to leave your biological father. It was unsafe for me to stay in Ackleton, but you were still too young to survive on your own, so I could only try hiding in smaller towns. Even so, Lily's men were able to track me down wherever I went. Having a child is the easiest way for a woman to secure her position in a wealthy family like this one, and Lily had no kids at the time. I, on the other hand, gave birth to a baby boy. While I wasn't sure if she knew about your gender back then, I had to hand you over to an orphanage to ensure your safety. At the very least, the director of the orphanage would be responsible for looking after you. It'd be a lot safer than me carrying you around while I hid from Lily. We could both end up dead on the streets, and it'd probably be made to look like an accident!”

Jeffrey's frown deepened when he heard Allie's harsh words.

I have two daughters-in-law—one of them being Lily, and the other Allie. Since Lily was born into a family with a decent background, she was able to marry into our family. However, it was precisely because of her decent upbringing that resulted in her marriage having issues. Of course, the one truly responsible for it all is my ungrateful son who cheated on her.

Allie is a lot wilder and knows how to please men better, which is something that Lily will never be able to learn. Moreover, a high-status woman like Lily wouldn't allow herself to please a man like how Allie does. Lily used to be such a reasonable and gentle person, so when did she change so much? Was it after she found out that her husband was cheating on her? After all, there is only so much mental and physical abuse a person can take. Not only did Lily lose the love and warmth that her marriage should've provided, but Allie also used underhanded means to destroy everything else she had.

Lily's loss of support from her family after its destruction only emboldened the two even further. Despite my best efforts to help maintain order in the family, I couldn't get Bruce to change his ways and love her again. It's almost as if going crazy and taking extreme measures is the only way for Lily to protect herself from the abuse. I know full well which of them is the wicked one, so there's no way I'd believe Allie's words about sending Cayden to an orphanage just to protect him! She most likely did it because he was preventing her from finding another man!

With that in mind, Jeffrey opened his eyes and glanced at Cayden, who was still standing by the door.

“Come here, Cayden. There's something I have to tell you...”

As much as Allie wanted to gain Jeffrey's sympathy through her acting, she stopped sobbing momentarily so she could hear his solution to the problem.

Cayden was worried about Avery's condition, and he also didn't want anything to happen to Jeffrey, so he made his way over obediently.

Mustering whatever strength he had left, Jeffrey uttered with a frown, “The Moore family name must not be ruined, or I won't be able to rest in peace...”

“It's not as bad as you think, Grandpa. Just relax and take good care of your health,” Cayden replied calmly while pulling the blanket up to Jeffrey's chest.

Jeffrey liked Cayden's confidence and how he never disappointed anyone in everything he did.

After all, he had always managed to deliver on his promises.

“I have long since acknowledged Ery as my granddaughter-in-law. That's why I rushed over to the Musk residence to get her back as soon as I found out about her marrying Dylan!” Jeffrey explained.

Cayden nodded, as he knew without a doubt that Jeffrey's actions showed his full approval toward Avery.

“However, I need you to know that Ery is now legally married to Dylan. I'm telling you this because I don't want you to let it get to your head and end up doing something you'll regret,” Jeffrey added.

“Don't worry; I know what I'm doing,” Cayden reassured him confidently as he stood next to the bed.

Realizing that things were not going the way she wanted, Allie quickly protested, “Dad! Why would you still believe his words? He woke up in Ery's bed this morning! In other words, he has slept with someone else's wife!”

Cayden shot her a cold glare in response, but Allie ignored his gaze and continued desperately, “What Cayden did is no different from what Bruce and I did back then! We've learnt our lesson, and Bruce repented his actions as well. Bruce won't be able to rest in peace if Cayden makes the same mistake he did!”

Having a headache, Jeffrey closed his eyes and took a deep breath before saying, “Cayden, listen very carefully now. You must keep your hands to yourself for as long as Ery remains married to Dylan. We cannot afford to let anyone get any more dirt on our family.”

“Dad, are you still supporting Cayden's decision to be with Ery?” Allie exclaimed while frowning at Jeffrey in disbelief.

As it wasn't a busy time of the year, there weren't a lot of passengers taking the train at the time.

While on the way to Livingsfill, Avery was sitting all by herself in one of the carriages and staring at a half-completed blueprint on her laptop.

The other colleagues that were headed for Livingsfill drove there on their own.

They didn't offer to give her a ride because they figured she would be travelling with Cayden.

Since he didn't show up at nine as he promised to, Avery had no choice but to take the train instead.

By the time the train got closer to Livingsfill, she glanced out the window and compared the view of her hometown to the blueprints on her laptop.

At about one in the afternoon, Avery got off the train in Livingsfill with a twenty-four-inch silver suitcase in her hand.

Her colleague from the HR department, who had been waiting for her at the station, greeted her the moment she saw her. “Hi, Avery! I tried calling your phone a few times, but I couldn't get through to you at all!”

“Really? Hold on, let me check...” It wasn't until Avery pulled her phone out from her handbag that she realized it had switched off on its own.

The colleague then drove her to a house and handed her a key as she said, “This is where you'll be staying. It's the best place we could find that was up for rent, so you'll just have to make do with it. Here, be careful not to lose the keys. I need to rush back to the office after taking care of everyone's accommodation. Just give me a call if you need something, okay?”
