The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 586

Chapter 586 Just Do A DNA Test

Claire had confronted Allie multiple times after the incident, which was why the former was certain that her daughter had been thrown into the trash can.

She insisted Allie tell her the truth about what happened.

Irked, Allie taunted and ridiculed Claire, “When your daughter was born, she was deprived of oxygen and turned blue. She was neither crying nor breathing, so we assumed she was dead and threw her into the trash can near the clinic. The weather was so cold that even if she had still been alive, she would have frozen to death in there.”

At that moment, Claire despised Allie to such an extent that she contemplated killing her.

Why couldn't they wait until I woke up to see my daughter? How could they be so cruel to throw away the daughter I risked my life to give birth to?

Noticing Claire secretly wiping her tears, Silvia realized that Claire was losing control of her emotions. She then turned to the woman and asked, “Patricia, could you tell us in detail how you discovered Evangeline back then?”

Silvia took hold of Patricia's arm and led her over to Claire. Patricia was visibly anxious, for her body was tense, and she was rubbing her hands nervously.

Patricia was actually around the same age as Silvia and Claire, but years of laborious work meant that she had more wrinkles around her eyes. Even half of her hair had turned white. The hard work she had done was visible on her rough hands, too.

Patricia was restless, and her accent was thick as she squeezed out, “I... I don't know what to say...”

Claire seized Patricia's hand and pleaded, “Please, can you tell me how you discovered Evangeline back then? I need to know all the details of the situation.”

The contrast between Claire's smooth and fair hands and Patricia's rough hands was striking.

Patricia felt inferior and thought about pulling her hand back, but Claire held it so tightly that the woman could not break free at all.

Noticing the tears in Claire's eyes, Patricia struggled to recollect what happened over two decades ago. She stuttered, “I-I need to think. That day... That day, my husband and I were going on our usual routine of selling snacks at the morning stall. As I was passing by a small gynecology clinic in the town, I heard a faint cry of a baby. My husband and I followed the sound of crying and searched for its source. When we found it, we were both terrified. We discovered a baby covered in blood, lying in a trash can. We couldn't continue our business that day. We took the baby home, cleaned her up, and then brought her to the hospital for a checkup. To our relief, we found out that she was in good health. At the time, my husband and I had been married for five years but were unable to conceive a child. We sought medical treatment from both traditional and modern medicine but to no avail. After that, we both gave up on the idea of having our own child and considered adopting one in the future. We never expected to find one on the street, and we thought it must have been a gift from God, so we decided to keep the baby and raise her as our own until now...”

At that, Patricia turned to glance at Evangeline.

Her weary eyes were filled with love, but there was melancholy in them too.

She and her husband treated Evangeline as if she was their biological daughter.

Even though they were impoverished, they had reserved the best for their daughter. They would cut expenses on their food and clothing to ensure that Evangeline's life was not inferior to that of wealthy children in the town.

Meanwhile, Oscar kept his head hung low as he smoked, a bitter expression on his face.

He was certain that his daughter was going to leave the Gellana family now that she had found her biological mother.

But the truth was Evangeline had learned of her birth circumstances a long time ago.

When she was in junior high, her neighbors teased her and accidentally revealed that she was not the biological daughter of the Gellana family. The revelation upset Evangeline, and she kicked up a fuss in response, determined to find her biological parents.

The Gellana couple tried to persuade Evangeline to wait until she was a bit older before searching for her biological parents, but she refused to listen and made a big fuss about it. She even threatened to go on a hunger strike and commit suicide if they did not help her find her real parents.

The Gellana couple was frightened out of their minds.
