Chapter 536
Rosalie was stumped for some time before murmuring, “I don’t-”
However, she had only just started speaking when Calvin’s finger pressed against her lips.
His slightly cool temperature traveled through her skin, simultaneously stopping her from saying anything else. Meanwhile,
to her surprise, in his eyes was a look of plea. “Don’t say anything else. Don’t say it today, all right? At the least, don’t say it while you’re dressed in this gown.”
Rosalie stilled in astoundment but ultimately swallowed the rest of her words.
“All right, let’s go. It’s not convenient for you to hail a taxi here while dressed like this anyway,” he urged.
Rosalie thanked Calvin and the duo walked in the direction of the exit.
But when they were about to reach it, they saw some security guards seemingly discussing something while gathered not far away. One of them even held an internal walkie-talkie and spoke nervously.
It looked like something had happened!
Frowning, Calvin stepped forward and inquired, “What’s going on?”
“Um… Someone suddenly cleared the area outside and sent people to surround the place,” a security guard answered. Calvin froze. He thought, ‘Today’s charity banquet is considered jointly held by the Gunner family and several other major companies in Strico.
If someone wants to make trouble, they will pretty much be making an enemy out of all of us!
And the only person who dares to do so in Strico is… “Who cleared the area outside?” Calvin questioned.
The security guards exchanged helpless glances, evidently clueless.
In the meantime, the security guard who was talking to someone via the walkie-talkie ended the conversation and hurried to Calvin. His face was fairly pale as he informed, “Mr. Gunner, the one who cleared the area outside is Mr. Youngblood!”
Needless to say, everyone knew who “Mr. Youngblood” referred to in Strico. Calvin’s eyes instantly darkened.
‘Jonathan? He’s the one who cleared the area outside?
Why did Jonathan do such a thing out of the blue? Don’t tell me it’s because… Calvin mused and turned to look at Rosalie, who was beside him.
Of course, Rosalie heard that security guard’s words as well. Her face had also lost all color, for never in a million did
years she expect Jonathan to do such a thing.
Right now, Rosalie was only a few steps away from the exit. The moment she walked to the door, she saw that the area outside was indeed no longer surrounded by reporters like before, and barely any reporters could be spotted. What couldn’t be missed, however, was a crowd of people in black uniforms encircling the establishment strictly.
“What exactly is Jonathan up to? What’s with clearing the area and bringing so many people?” wondered Rosalie, but she couldn’t come up with any answers.
All of a sudden, a figure slowly came into her line of sight.
Rosalie’s pupils immediately shrank, and her whole body stiffened. All she could do was stare blankly at the figure getting
out of the car.
It went without saying that it was Jonathan.
The man was dressed in a thin, black turtleneck sweater paired with a dark gray suit jacket. Coupled with his handsome face, he appeared particularly aloof and solemn.
Under the moonlight, his full forehead was in plain sight as he had his hair combed back, and his straight nose and sexy, thin lips remained as captivating as ever. At present, his glinting eyes were fixated on Rosalie.
“He’s looking at me!” Rosalie thought in horror, feeling all the blood in her body run cold bit by bit.
Even she couldn’t explain why that was so. She simply felt that Jonathan’s current gaze felt dangerous and even instinctively made her want to escape!
“Escape… I need to escape. To somewhere so far that he won’t see me!” she pondered.
Without warning, a hand held hers. “Are you afraid?”
Rosalie came back to her senses and discovered it was Calvin holding her hand. Their clasped hands were trembling slightly.
‘No, it’s just my hand that’s trembling!
Am I afraid? Afraid of Jonathan… Rosalie thought.
“Don’t be afraid. I’ll handle it.” Calvin’s voice sounded in her ear.
Rosalie took a deep breath, and her hand gradually stopped trembling.
Then, she watched as Jonathan walked toward her step by step, his gaze never once straying from her face. It seemed to be silently telling her that he was here for her!
“No way!” Rosalie denied it to herself.
Rosalie felt that she must have thought too much. Even if Jonathan really wanted to find her, he didn’t need to make such a huge scene. Besides, last time, she and he had already made it explicitly clear that there was no chance they could start afresh anymore.
As that lofty figure arrived before Rosalie, the man’s glinting eyes revealed a chilling emotion, but his lips were slightly raised, looking extremely attractive.
