"Did you ask why they only want to be an assistant? Did they specifically apply for this position?"
The HR head nodded, "Yes! I did probe to see if they were interested in working on project management, but they insisted on being Ms. Sanchez's assistant."
Dorothy pondered for a moment, then decided, "Get them in here. I want to talk to them."
"Of course."
It wasn't the flattery that convinced her but the genuine need for a capable person by her side, not just any rookie.
She interviewed Perdita mainly out of concern not to waste her potential since project management indeed pays more. But it seemed Perdita wasn't in it for the money but rather for the learning opportunity.
Just as the workday ended, Dorothy received a call from Everett.
"Finished for the day?"
"Yeah." She began tidying her desk, ready to leave the office, then paused, "You’re here?"
"Smart guess, come on down, lobby."
Dorothy quickly gathered her things and rushed downstairs.
As the elevator doors slid open, her eyes searched for Everett but landed on Perdita first—

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
The children's stories are si boring. This book is like torture. I've put in so much time I have to see this through but it's becoming more difficult....
