"I have no clue about that stuff. All I know is that when Jeffrey walks his daughter down the aisle, he'll be bawling his eyes out."
Dorothy chuckled, rubbing her cheek against Abigail's, "What about you, Everett? You gonna cry when you give your daughter away?"
"..."
"Hmm?" She looked up at him, waiting for a response.
Everett put down his glass of sour cherry lemonade, taking his daughter from Dorothy's arms.
"I'm not giving a daughter away; I'm gaining a son-in-law."
Dorothy couldn't help but smile wryly, "You sound just like Jeffrey, you know?"
"I'll still let my daughter get married, though."
But Jeffrey, he was adamant about not allowing it!
"You two, truly birds of a feather. Doting dads, through and through!" Dorothy sighed, "I wonder what kind of guys your daughters will bring home."
"They'll be top-notch, responsible, and most importantly—"
"They'll adore your daughter, right?" Dorothy finished his sentence, shaking her head in amusement. "You can't custom order a son-in-law, you know. But I have faith my Abigail will find someone who truly loves her."
Everett gently tapped his daughter's nose, looking into her eyes seriously.
"Listen to me, Abigail. No matter what, your mom and I will always be your safe haven, your support. If anyone, be it a classmate, a friend, future boyfriends, or even a partner, ever upsets you, you come straight to us. As long as I'm breathing, I won't let anyone hurt you."
Abigail, not fully grasping the gravity of his words, simply nodded, "I get it, Daddy!"
"Good girl."
Dorothy, holding her glass of lemonade, nearly choked on her laughter.
"Everett, are you getting sentimental in your old age? Where's that cool, aloof CEO gone?"
Dorothy opened the door, quickly gesturing for them to keep quiet.
Karen nodded, following her to Langston's bedside.
Seeing them together made her heart warm. Karen adored Langston, having watched him grow up. She knew he was a catch!
But for Jeffrey, it felt like his heart was being torn apart.
"No, no, this can't be happening! My daughter can't be falling for a boy other than me!"
Karen shot him a glare, and Jeffrey instantly clammed up.
"You really think you can keep your daughter single forever? If she ends up with Langston, you should be over the moon! Besides, Langston might not even fancy your daughter."
Jeffrey pouted, "How could he not? My daughter's gorgeous!"
Dorothy, fearing their bickering might escalate, quickly intervened, "Alright, let's not jump the gun here. They're still young!"
