Everett had turned Dorothy into quite the pampered princess, not that she had many faults to begin with, but now she'd developed a peculiar habit of being picky about where she slept!
After just two days and one night at the hospital, seeing Dorothy struggling to rest properly, Everett decided to bring not just the baby but also the entire medical team back to their home.
"Are we... making too much of a fuss?" Dorothy couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time as she watched Everett nearly recruit the whole maternity ward staff. "I had the baby just fine! There's really no need for all this medical staff. Aren't we just wasting public resources here?"
"I hired them; they're not here for free," Everett explained gently, caressing her cheek. "The hospital isn't close by, and I couldn't bear the thought of something happening and us not being prepared. Consider it something I'm doing for my own peace of mind."
With that said, what more could Dorothy add?
Maybe it was the exhaustion from childbirth, but Dorothy found herself feeling tired all the time now. Even when her friend Karen came over for a chat, Dorothy would nod off mid-conversation.
And she wouldn't wake up until late at night.
Groggy and bleary-eyed, she noticed a figure cradling the baby, pacing back and forth in their bedroom.
Everett was so engrossed in looking at their newborn that he didn't even notice Dorothy waking up.
Now forbidden from wearing her contact lenses, Dorothy reached for her glasses on the nightstand, putting them on to get a clearer view of the tender expression on Everett's face.
Even after all this time together, she had never seen such a lasting smile on his face!
He had fully embraced his role as a father, seeming even more like the one who had just had a baby than Dorothy herself, radiating with love.
"Really? Karen's daughter is always so happy to see Langston, and here his own sister cries at the sight of him." Dorothy looked up at Everett, a bit exasperated. "You don't have to keep walking around standing up. The doctor said if the baby gets used to it, she'll only fall asleep that way from now on."
She meant well with her reminder, but Everett simply said, "My daughter just likes being walked around to fall asleep, that's an easy wish to fulfill!"
"..."
"Whatever she likes, whatever she wants, I'm willing to give." He concluded, then winked at the baby, "Right, daddy's right, isn't he?"
