"Have the meals after the baby been a bit off for you? I noticed you didn't eat much this morning."
Everett had realized something was up after finishing his day's work, but Dorothy was sleeping at the time, and he didn't want to disturb her.
"It's just that I'm not really feeling hungry," she replied.
Truth be told, Dorothy was particularly sensitive to pain! So, while other moms might not feel as much discomfort after a cesarean, she was genuinely still in pain.
Naturally, she wasn't in any mood to eat.
Everett had even noticed that!
"Then I'll ask the nanny to switch up the menu for you, or maybe Kevin can scout out some other places that do good postpartum meals."
"Really, you don't have to!" Dorothy had been saying this a lot these past few days, "If I need anything, I'll tell you! Everett, we're married now. I'll be straightforward with you."
He sighed deeply, gently patting the baby cradled in his arms, "I know you better than anyone! Even if you really dislike something, you wouldn't tell me."
So Everett had no choice but to observe everything himself!
"Okay, okay, I'll try to change, happy?"
She leaned in and kissed Everett on the cheek, "Now, do you have any regrets?"
"None," he answered quickly, "Actually, just having you by my side, I felt complete."
He hadn't dared to hope for anything else.
This child, if Dorothy hadn't been so insistent, Everett was seriously considering getting a vasectomy.
But now…
He planned to take care of Dorothy until she was fully recovered and then go through with it to spare her any future pain.
Jeffrey had come specifically to help welcome guests to the baby’s celebration, and Everett...
He simply carried his daughter, standing at the door, as if he wanted to show off the daughter he had "raised single-handedly" to the whole world.
"My mother-in-law used to say that Everett and Jeffrey were two completely different people. She always wondered how they could be friends! Now, I see they have something in common—they're both completely wrapped around their daughters' fingers."
When Jeffrey was home, he was just like Everett!
One daughter in his left arm, another by the hand, always bustling about.
"Isn't that wonderful? It means we both made good choices." Dorothy believed that men who adored their daughters would likely adore their wives just as much!
From a distance, Everett's gaze suddenly met Dorothy's.
He smiled, walking over with his daughter in his arms, "You stay put, no need to come greet the guests."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
