Just as they were about to say something, they suddenly looked up and saw Heather standing in front of them.
She was staring right at them. Obviously, she had heard their conversation.
"The Lopez Corporation pays you to gossip, huh?"
"Sorry, Ms. Heather..." The two staff members immediately stood up, bowing and begging in panic.
Heather glanced at them, "You don't have to apologize to me. I'll report this to your department head. You can explain things to him."
With that, she turned around in her high heels and headed straight for the CEO's office.
Heather had asked Kevin in advance and knew that Everett was in the office, so she knocked on the door.
Only when she heard a voice from inside did she push the door open.
Everett glanced up for a second, then continued to look at the documents in his hand. His attitude towards her was completely different from when he first returned to the country.
Back then, he might not have been very enthusiastic, but at least he treated her as his right-hand woman, a good partner at work.
All because of one Dorothy, that junior assistant!
Heather's pupils dilated. She stepped forward, walked to his desk, and handed him the envelope in her hand.
"Everett, I know you've already decided that I'm framing Dorothy; it’s useless no matter how I explain it. So I won't waste my time. I choose to resign as chief counsel. Here's my resignation letter."
Hearing this, Everett finally responded; he looked up, "The truth is the truth and it's not determined by me."
"You know whether you did it or not; the company won't wrong you. It all depends on the evidence."
"Is there any evidence now that points to me framing Dorothy?"
"I'm investigating."
Heather laughed, "You're just looking for evidence against me, so why bother with the word 'investigating'? Now for the sake of Amanda's health, I'm willing to resign myself. Whether you blame me or try to clear Dorothy's name, I only have one condition: let’s pretend to be lovers in front of Amanda."
Seeing Everett not speaking, she frowned.
"You should know whether she can make it out of the emergency room again!"
Heather knew Everett didn't want to agree, but she knew too well that this was the only way right now.

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
